To get the best out of Pogba, Rooney needs to be dropped. I know there are countless articles about it and I dont want to go on berating Rooney but Pogba's performances will suffer from him playing. And to spend 89M on a player and then not play around him is just stupidity.
I would personally like to see Carrick or even Schweinstiger sitting in front of that defence or even Blind, someone intelligent to break up play and shield the back 4.
Herrera and Pogba should then play in front of the defensive midfielder with 2 outlets of either Rashford, Martial or Miki. This way you can compensate for Zlatan's lack of pace with the wide runners stretching teams.
The back 4 is no real concern I think they have all done pretty well and Jose should stick with it.
Carrick
Herrera Pogba
Rashford Zlatan Martial
This would not only get the best out of Pogba but give us that much needed balance, Jose has some really big decisions to make as I think we have the team to challenge or even win the league.
Getting the best out of Pogba

I think what we will see over the coming PL games is Rooney out on the right and a:
------CM-------
---CM, CM----
formation start to get used.
----
If thats the case Rooney will give Mourinho to a reason to drop him. On Saturday we were screaming for Rooney to be dropped and Martial to play out wide, instead we had Valencia and Rooney on the right side neither of them having a clue what to do.

----------------------------------------- Blind
---------------------------- Herrera ----------- Pogba
Miki/Mata/Lingard --------------------------------Martial/Rashford
----------------------------------- Zlatan/Rashford
Can swap in MS, Carrick or BS for the others depending on oppositions but that would be the best selection.

Martial has never looked any better on the right either.
If Rooney does start taking that role (remember it is not a winger role, but an inside forward who can move about) his competition will be Lingard and Mata.

Well on the left and Rashford on the right, anything to add pace to the team.
Martial looked good and faded but has all the tools to be brilliant like last season, put it this way I could offer more than Rooney is at the moment, pains me to see him holding us back so much.

Rashford has never looked good their either!
Better just to stop worrying about rooney and start hoping that one of the squad players, or the likes of Pogba, put in a performance in a Rooney position that makes José think.
Rooney, Martial, Pogba, Mkhi, Lingard, even Zlatan have all been under par over the course of full games.... We need players to step up, not just focus on one villain to take the blame for all.

No but they have the pace to play out wide which wastes Rooney playing there anyway, besides they have to work around Ibra who wont be dropped and rightly so having scored 4 goals so far. I would rather see the young boys playing than not at all as they would offer more out wide than Rooney would.

Martial has literately done nothing, this season, so I wont be too keen to shoehorn him in or move Rashy just to accommodate him.
As of now.. Rashy plays on the left. He is the most in form. He shouldn't be moved around to accommodate a player who has yet to do anything this season (Martial) and more than X player should be moved to accommodate Rooney.
Anyway... Thursdays game is a chance for players to stake their claim... Let's hope some do.

Martial had a very productive game against Bournemouth and with more starts will get better, dont forget he was poor at the Euro's and can only get better, Rooney however wont, ever again probably.
But yes would be good to see the fringe players showing some hunger Thursday with the hope they can come into the first team.

Pogba needs a new midfield partner first and foremost imo. Preferably a DM.
I am baffled by the decision to pick Fellaini over Carrick, Bastian or even Morgan. I am even more baffled that people seem to think Fellaini has been great this season.
I agree that Roo is a problem for us but he isn't the biggest problem at the moment. Against City we lost the midfield battle and it cost us the match.
I am not specifically blaming Felly for the result, just the midfield system in general. He is the wrong type of player to partner Pogba imo.
