After reading the many articles and comments from Friday nights game I feel it important to respond with a Linfield supporters perspective.
I must admit to being ashamed embarrassed and downright angry at the actions of certain individuals in the South stand corner. I expect the missile throwers will be identified, charged by the authorities and will be banned from all football stadiums for life. Personally I would jail them or make them serve community service with Boko Haram. These gabshites do not represent me or the vast majority of Linfield supporters.
We will be fined heavily and maybe even banned which is deserved.
What has disappointed and saddened me however are the comments (made on the match thread and others which followed) by some folk, some of which surprised me and from others were expected.
Appears from these statements that ALL Linfield supporters, including my own family, are nothing but knuckle dragging sectarian Catholc hating brainless bigots who should be banned from travelling to the second leg. Ironic when at least half our team are Celtic supporters.
Celtic fans should surely know what its like to have a minority of gormless followers who do nothing but drag the team into the gutter. These people don't represent the vast majority of Celtic supporters in the same way that the drunken idiots on Friday don't represent Linfield.
Please please do not tar us all with the one brush.
Our Chairman and Manager speak for the club and are decent people.
Some comments about our on the field performance were a bit insulting too.
We are a part time club, up against a highly paid team, where each player earns more per week than our entire squad, manager and coaches. Some perspective in order please. I would think that some SPL teams would have been happy to only lose 2.0 against Celtic.
I must admit that I was very impressed by Celtic. You have an excellent midfield and the passing and forward movement off the ball was impressive. Tom Rogic is a superb player and one of the best I've seen at Windsor Park. Only weakness I could see was in the central defence.
Good luck in the champions league, hope you go far and really hope you guys don't have to apologize for the actions of a few.
