Lukaku wasn't missed.

Our attacking play was still laboured first half but second half we were so much better. Scored 2 and could have have scored 4 or 5. Pickford made some good saves and Mata was desperately unlucky.

I really don't think we wasted 90m on Pogba as he's showed this season however I must say Lukaku isn't the right player for this team. If we had proper wingers who could cross then he'd be much better fit.

I like the Martial / Rashford and Lingard interchanging. All good movement from them and hard to play against.

I’m probably in the minority here in thinking that Martial is a better CF than LF - at least in the long term. He’s better with his back to goal than both Rashford & Lukaku and his movement is quite subtle - which doesn’t suit the LW/LF role at times - he doesn’t come to the ball and then peakl away to get in behind like a conventional wide player. He’s good with the ball at his feet but his movement isn’t that of a wide player for me. At CF it’s much better as he’s more naturally on the last line and he wants to move into the channels which creates space.

He’s also a lot better than Rashford at challenging for the ball in the air and at least making things a bit more difficult for the defenders in that respect. Rashford usually doesn’t even challenge in the air meaning there’s o chance to get close to him and compete for the second ball.

Hopefully Jose sticks with Martial up top in Lukaku’s absence.

no one fears lukaku. i get nervous when martial or rashford come on the pitch. utd made the same mistake as liverpool did , getting big strikers that dont fit the style the team should be playing.

Why is a Leeds fan so desperate to be liked by United supporters

Get back in your lane mate, you are clueless if you think teams are happy to face Lukaku

maybe not happy to face him, but the alternative would be much tougher.
and this is a football forum robb open to all football fans.
as far as clueless goes you have that title pretty much wrapped up.

Martial is more reliable than Rashford (generally) but that isn't saying much.

he is also better up front than on the win .

Neither of them are remotely in lukaku's class though.

to make such favourable comparisons at this stage is just founded in fanboy prejudice and some kind of bizarre manifestation of wishful thinking

as a defender, I would much rather have the easier task of marking rashford (and martial for that matter) than lukaku. He's a nightmare

Pogba was definitely not a waste of money. One of the most talented players in world football and hopefully in time one of the best.

Compare his fee to VVD, Lacazette, Lukaku, Morata etc. and you’ll see Pogba wasn’t a waste of money

I know. That's what I said.

Lukaku was though.

It was only one game but you probably didn't miss Lukaku, without him then the tactics automatically change.

Some people thought Lukaku could be the missing piece to the jigsaw when he was signed in the Summer and Mourinho thought he would be his Drogba.

He's a million miles off being a Drogba but at £75m and upwards Lukaku is always going to be the focal point of United's attack at least whilst Mourinho is there.

The point is martial has done as much as lukaku to warrant Jose sticking with him the way he has the Belgian striker

Don't think anyone did tbh.... don't even think Robb thought that, and he was the biggest fan of the signing

everyone had doubts but accepted he'd score goals ... and hoped he's score enough to outweigh his limitations
