Video assisted replay (think that’s what it stands for) begins in a trial at the Brighton/Palace game tonight
Apparently in Italy and Germany fans are sick of it for a combination of reasons ranging from it slowing down games to even with VAR used, decisions still are incorrect
I’m all for tech in football but I have a feeling this new thing will be hated and not something that improves the game.
What do you guys think about it?

It's being used incorrectly, I think FIFA have set it up to fail.

Is this a gut feeling Busby, or is there some evidence of this?

Even if VAR does lead to more accurate decisions. The debate will just change to the interpretation of the rule.
The rule which gets me at the moment is when the 'follow-through' is penalised for a slide tackle. I think that is absolute nonsense personally. So if an incident like that happens in the build up to a goal before VAR, not everyone will be happy.

I understand this rule only too well.
I used to get away with it for most of my playing days.

I am all for laying one on your opponent if you win the ball first.
I assume you didn't get the ball and followed through regardless VC!

I always got the ball.
It did backfire on we once. I whooped this guy up in the air and he landed on my knee and did my ligaments in.
I was out for a few months with that one.

Entirely a gut feeling, yes. They fought against VAR for years and it's implementation has been poor imo.

I really do hope this'll be used sensibly.
In other sports that use video technology there is a natural break in play. In cricket each new ball is a new 'play'. In rugby, at times, the aim of the game is to get the ball downfield and out of play as quickly as possible for example. Football however, is different.
We all want the correct decisions to be made but we've seen so many things coming down to interpretation that I hope that it'll only be used for factual decisions (offside, ball out of play, handball/foul in/out of box etc). Otherwise it could become messy.

This is Fifa, after all.

VAR will just have us re-taking the same penalties about 10 times, to satisfy every single petty infringement as each kick is taken.
