Team of the Season

It's the time of year football players and writers pick their respective team of the season, which is why this is both simultaneously the best and worst time to write this article.
But most importantly they do it wrong.
The only guidance is a 442 formation, which leads to unbalanced sides and overlooked vital niche roles.
So here are my suggestions for formulating a team of the season:

The formation will be 433, both for reasons of modern football, and to represent the most styles of player.
The participant must pick:
1 goalkeeper
1 left-sided fullback/wingback
1 right-sided fullback/wingback
2 central defenders
1 defensive midfielder
1 deep playmaker/box-to-box midfielder
1 attacking midfielder
1 winger
1 inside-forward/support-striker/target-man/false-9
1 goal-scorer/striker

The FA could use a small panel of experts to decide which players make the shortlist and for which positions players qualified, so that no player would qualify for more than one position.

So tell me why I'm wrong, tell me your team of the season using these qualifiers, and back up any potentially contentious decisions with why you think your player qualifies for a certain position eg does Firmino belong in the striker or support-striker category, is De Bruyne a deep playmaker or attacking midfielder? If Pep is happy playing Delph at LB, then there’s no reason to look any further for LB of the season

Lets just close the thread because it should be every Man City player then.

Personally I'm surprised no one else has gone for Alonso; he has 6 goals and an assist in the Premier League, and frankly Chelsea's defence is among the best in the league in terms of goals conceded.
It's not his fault no one else in the team is chipping in with goals x

Free kicks has boosted his stats. An average player who ideally we'd improve upon imo.

And believe me the defence stat is in spite of him, unless the ball is in the air

Kunta - I understand it when people say a player's goal tally is boosted by being a team's designated penalty-taker, but I don't think that logic follows with regards to freekicks.

Whether scoring directly or indirectly it requires significant skill and form to pick up goals from set-pieces x
