So once more, there are murmurs of discontent between Ozil and Emery. I'm surprised this was barely discussed here yesterday or today. However you look at it, it was strange that Ozil was fit for yesterday's game and despite no internationals engagement, was dropped in a tight game against Bournemouth where we were still on level terms going into the last quarter of the game. Emery's reason for not playing him was even more curious: alluding to the game being too "demanding" and "intense" and "physical" for Ozil. If you're not going to play Ozil against Bournemouth for those reasons, there's no reason to play him against any of a dozen other teams in the league.
It's either they have personally fallen out, or Emery simply doesn't trust Ozil (which I guess would still lead to them falling out).
Makes you question Ozil's future if Emery remains here. Problem is, except some Chinese club buy him, who the hell would pay Ozil's £300k wages or whatever the hell egregious amount we're paying him (I get wound up everytime I remember that farce)? We've invested so much in the underperforming German that we have to fully commit to making him a success. I wonder if he'll start the coming games against Spurs and Man U.

It's not the quote but the interpretation that is the problem
To me it seemed strange to drop Ozil but UEs words made it seem like a tactical decision based on the physicality required for the game
Tbf when I posted earlier I thought he wasn't even in the squad, didn't realise he was on the bench

What other interpretation are we to draw from the fact Emery dropped Ozil to the bench and basically said it's because Ozil is a wuss? I still don't know what you're blaming the media for. It's not like there is some media sensation about it. I'm particularly responding to that I guess because too many people in the current climate are quick to make the media a boogeyman for any story they don't like.

If Ozil doesn't start in either of our next two league games I'd give this fall out bollox more credence
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Basically this. We can speculate all we want but if our main creative player doesn't play in the most important two games of the season, so far, he's had a falling out and he's outta here.
Until then i'm more inclined to believe he was dropped for tactical purposes.

The media love to single out Ozil and act like any little thing is a sign of him being a waste of money, not good enough, not strong enough or just for being a Muslim.
Emery said he picked a team based on what he thought would be best for beating the opponent in front of us.
We've got a huge December coming up and if Ozil was tested for those then its great management.
If he doesn't start against Spurs or Utd then there's clearly something wrong

Emery’s done well with the players at his disposal, but we really need a new left back, back up right back (can’t see Lichtsteiner staying beyond this season), two wide players and a better central midfielder than Xhaka.
Unfortunately i think it will take us 3/4 transfer windows to get that because of how many mediocre players we have on our books on obscene wages
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If I were prioritizing, wingers would be my first and second priority. I'd make do with what we have in other positions, except our scouts work a miracle bringing in top players on the cheap, and focus on getting at least 2 damn good wingers who can really stretch the opposition.

Oh, I'm pretty sure he'll be starting against Spurs. Just showing what a waste it is where a player we've invested so much on can be dropped for any reason other than injury or lack of fitness.

I love a conspiracy surrounding transfers but I think I Emery isn't wrong about this.
I think we can only afford one of Mkhi or Ozil in the team and I would personally play Mkhi in away games that require a far higher workrate and Ozil at home where he can get on the ball more often.

I have to back Emery on this one considering I said I would either sell Ozil, or not play him in the big games. Is Bournemouth a big game? No, course not, but they play with enough intensity to be concerned about players not competing enough with their players.

I may not be critical of Emery for benching Ozil, but it was imprudent for him to downtalk a player in the media. A smart manager will always find a way to explain away his selection.

Tbh I kinda hope there is a bit of a falling out, as it means he's more likely to leave.
While he's a wonderful player, and gives us the odd outstanding performance (see Leicester at home), the bottom line is he just isn't suited to this league
His agent got him a top contract by taking advantage of our fecklessly run club, and all its doing is holding us back in the transfer market really.
He simply doesn't produce enough to justify the contract we gave him.

Or maybe it was meant to light a fuse under him.
