Made this comment on another thread but thought i should create a thread on it instead.
I havent really said much on the ref situation:
For me they get a raw deal big time. The game has changed so much, its much, much faster. Players are faster, the ball is faster everything happens quicker than it used to. The rules are far more complex now and you could get away with far far more than you can now (in terms of tackling).
Players are also far more savvy in conning refs and buying fouls.
Not a single incident gets missed now due to the coverage and amount of camera's and you ca get a slow mo and still images of every single second of a match from multiple angles.
You get a lot more discussion and breakdown of the game now, via media and forums etc.
All the above has changed so much in the last 15 years or so. All those changes, all make the refs job more difficult yet NOTHING has changed in terms of helping refs making the right decision. Of course they are gonna get more decisions wrong and of course more of them will get highlighted and scrutinised much more.
All these changes and no extra help from the refs, what do you expect to happen? They need help, they havent gotten poorer in fact i think they have gotten better but the job they are expected to do is far more challenging than it ever was.

40 plus years of post match whinging about refs hant ever changed.
Are they worse Ive no idea but players cheat more and yet the focus and blame is on the refs for not catching them every time.
Boot it out claim the throw curse the linesman for getting it right.
Waste time from the first min then curse the ref if he correctly digs you for it.
Put your studs through an opponent and curse the ref for booking you and getting it right.
Fall over no foul given then chase the ref cursing him for getting it right
So are Collum Dallas Thompson etc better than Syme Dallas Davidson etc.

I don't think the media help at all with the way they get delusionally biased pundits on who turn every 50/50 decision against their team into an "outrageous decision". Some of the cants we get talking about our game are even more embarrassing than the refs. All that said, if I was as bad at my job as Collum, I'd have been fired years ago.
