Bielsa Press Conference

If you have the time please have a listen to the press conference today. I would be amazed if anyone reads into it what Jonty has managed to create as part of his agenda.

The press conference was a defence of both Orta & AR from Bielsa. Now a lot of people will disagree with that which is fine and I understand. But that doesn't mean you should pretend Bielsa agrees with you by just making things up.

For those that can't listen to the press conference please see the below quotes referred to in Jonty's article

'In this moment we don’t have those two players and the club is going to do all is possible to try to resolve the situation. After the club have to resolve this, always respecting the rules and economy of the club. Not just the economy of the club, if not the limits every club has to bring players. We are aware we have to replace two players. Victor Orta is working very hard to try to resolve this. The president supports the needs of the team and if we can resolve it: better. If we cannot resolve it, it won’t be for a lack of effort or someone is not engaged.'

'What we have to do is describe how things are and accept supporters and the press judge us how they think we have to be judged. Every time the team doesn’t win, there is something around the club, some feeling of doubt, lack of confidence and we understand this, but we have to know if we deserve this or not. Also it’s useful to analyse the argument supporters and press say what they claim on the team. Fair things I am forced to analyse, to analyse you need arguments. So when we listen or read the demanding about claims for what we are doing, we try to confirm if what people, in general, supporters and press, say is true or not.'

And also I have to agree with Kebab 100%. Fed up of the attitude of too many fans reactions to every mistake. Anything that doesn't go our way. It's wrong and it doesn't help the side. It's embarrassing at times.

Personally, I always think the best sort of debate is when its done with respect, a bit of banter, but ultimately being able to see the opposites point of view and in some cases, actually say 'yes, you may have a point'.. admit you may have got it wrong in the beginning.. a lot on here (not just the obvious by the way), won't ever get to that point at all, they'll either try twist around it, or simply not reply if they think have been 'out debated' if that's a term.

I once had a debate with Haymaker and Milky on here ref dropping Bamford, at the beginning of the season - we both conceded some things but ultimately, it was done with full respect, listening to each others points.. from then, I had nothing but respect for Haymaker and Milky.. because I know, even if we disagree on something, it will end properly with a touch of gloves to show respect for a good spar. that's how it should be.

and being 'right' in any debate is simply a bonus, the point of it is to get to the true meaning

Bielsa is talking as the coach of LUFC. Jonty's criticism, as I read it, is about the way in which we pursue players, and the ends to which we will go to secure their signatures. There are plenty of posters who agree with Jonty, as just as many who disagree, but I cannot agree that he has an 'agenda'. He is just passionate about LUFC, like the rest of us. His opinions are generally interesting and they spark lively debate. If that is his agenda, all well and good.

For the most part I think Jonty makes great well thought points. I wasn't particularly disagreeing with him yesterday (not 100% sure of my own facts for a start). I did think I heard what I heard, but was willing to be corrected.

You're spot on about him creating debate, often great debate.

I think Spit sums it up well above, debate should be respectful, but with some banter thrown in.

This site offers great perspectives on things surrounding our club, often which make me re-think my original viewpoint - be it players, owners, tactics ….etc …. It's great and clearly given the volume of comments from so many, a focus for many fans of our club.
