Chelsea's 2nd Goal

Personally I felt like at least one Chelsea player stood in an offside position was directly inline between Leno and his sight of the ball before it was kicked and for this reason it should have been ruled out as this player caused his view to be obstructed. Obviously with the way the referees have been doing their best to damage us for the past decade or more the chances of us ever being given a decision like this are remote at best though.

There are pundits on Sky Sports this morning saying the referee should have given Luiz a yellow instead of a red too. What was interesting about that was that there was absolutely no hesitation from the referee or discussion with any of his peers before brandishing the red card - in fact it looked like he couldn't wait to get it out of his pocket which is 'funnily' so often the case when it comes to one of our players being sent off.

Just cos they came out last week and have given officials advice to make more use of it?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Those are the facts.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

They were never told to view all incidents.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

It seems you are the one making things up.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Were they told to view all incidents?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I am talking about the red card. Which is reviewable.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Everything is reviewable. It doesn't mean everything should be reviewed. There was literally no reason for the ref to review it. It was a red all day.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

And that is your opinion. Not a fact.

They didn't review the red card?

Really?

I thought it was a strange decision, personally. A strong case for that to be yellow.

They didn't review the red card?

-------------

Of course they did. The ref stood there and told Luiz to wait whilst giving a clear signal that he was in communication with the VAR team.

Ah, okay. Thought so.

In the new laws a player who commits a foul while tackling in a "fair and reasonable" attempt to play the ball will only receive a yellow card for this offence, because it is considered that the penalty kick recreates the goalscoring opportunity that was lost by the foul.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Yep. Hence me saying without the push in the back he would have got away with a yellow card. The shove in the back isn't an attempt to play the ball.... how can it be?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

It only looks like a push because Tammy has played the ball past him by the time he reacts. Just because Luiz is slow doesn't mean he isn't trying to defend the move.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Looks a pushIt was a push, two hands with no chance of taking the ball.

thats the thing, luiz was behind tammy all along, had no chance of getting tothe ball.

I thought that if the player is making a genuine attempt to get the ball that they won’t get sent off? Also the ref initially played advantage until the chance was gone so would he have sent Luiz off had a Chelsea player scored the rebound?

At the time I didn’t complain about the red (although I was surprised by it) but in hindsight the decision was ridiculously harsh.

You can certainly make a case that he was trying to tackle the ball in that challenge.

I think it’s one of those where if the referee had booked him, it wouldn’t have been upgraded by VAR to a red.
