Pogba, Bruno, and Ole

I understand why a lot of people are frustrated with Pogba but aside from his mistake yesterday he was not the worst player on the pitch.

Bruno was much worse than Pogba, giving away possession cheaply when he has time on the ball and under no pressure.

The whole team seems to have regressed and yet when these individuals play for other teams they look like world-beaters.

Yesterday Ole said our tactics change depending on who we play against.

Now lets be honest with ourselves, given that we need to start spending money on the right players, and also get the best out of our very inconsistent squad...

Do we want a manager with a system, or do we want a manager that changes his tactics based on the opponents?

We have a squad good enough to challenge for the title and yet there are candidates for relegation that play more entertaining football than us.

If Pogba put the effort in that he did in the week then he's a fantastic player. Problem is he doesn't.

Yep. He didn’t do it last term, and we were the best team in the league from January until the end of the season.
——-

Rosso, why do you keep repeating that false stat?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It isn’t a false stat, Robb. It’s a fact.

Matchday 25 to Matchday 38:

W9 D5 L0. 32pts (1st in league).

Goals for 30 (2nd in league).
Goals against 7 (1st in league).
Difference +23 (2nd in league).
----------------------------------------------------------------------

January to the end of the season

Liverpool - 14 wins
City - 13 wins
United - 10 wins
Arsenal - 9 wins and an FA cup.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If you’d prefer me to be anally specific, I shall start writing “from Matchday 25 until the end of the season” then.

I noticed this, he looked motivated mid-week. Unsure where that went on Sunday.

-----------------------------------------------

The team as a whole looked more motivated and confident midweek, more so in the 2nd half. Then they play like they did yesterday and you're left scratching your head a bit because you'd have thought they'd have played with more zip and swagger after humiliating a good Leipzig side but no.

It's feast or famine, peaks or troughs, both performances and results.

To be honest, I think a lot of people are neglecting the obvious here... Leipzig really weren't all that (plus we got an early-ish goal and a lead to defend), whereas Arsenal were faster, stronger and more aggressive in their pressing.

We also had Martial holding the ball up better midweek, Matic at the base of the midfield (safer in possession than Fred/McT + offering a more physical presence centrally) and Beekers who is also safer in possession than Bruno. So I think when you combine those factors you can account for the differences in the performances to at least some degree.

Agree with some, but not that Leipzig were worse than Arsenal, first half they were better.
But we knocked the stuffing out of them

Nothing wrong with tweaking, but the personnel shoed into that formation made no sense yesterday...

I said a couple of days ago that Ole and his team were no more than adequate tactically... Might have given them too much credit... Yesterday showed a complete lack of understanding of the opposition and the limitations of our players. McT was bad but most of the blame for that lies with the manager... WTF was he thinking!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
playing a diamond with a player who is known to break up play the deepest point.. an energetic midfielder in mctominay alongside a player who wont work as hard but more likely to create in pogba.. and out most creative player at the tip...GOOD LORD WHAT WAS HE THINKING!!!!!

on paper that should have worked.. and looking at the match thread.. most agreed.. now that it didnt youre coming on here like nostrafeckingdamus
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Playing a diamond played right into Arteta’s hands. He countered it and we had no answer.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
you didnt even watch the fecking game Robb

what happened was Mctominay kept wandering out of position and we couldnt pass the ball more than 5 yards.
Pogba and fernandes lost the ball at nearly every given opportunity and freds passing was abysmal.

if you cant do the basics, which we clearly didnt, youre gonna struggle to get any grip on the game.

yes arsenal pressed high, but our ability to play the ball early and to one of our own players was what cost us
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Maybe read what Gary Neville said about the diamond. No offence Drunk, I’ll listen to his view over yours. We don’t have the full backs to make the diamond work in most games.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
no we dont.. but im not talking about most games, im talking about the game you didnt even watch Robb.. one where we constantly gave the ball away and invited pressure onto ourselves because of it
----------------------------------------------------------------------

And that’s the game Neville was talking about, how it didn’t work against Arsenal. We made it easy for Arteta and he must have laughed at the lack of any threat on our wings.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
strangely enough shaw was probably one of our better players and actually put some very good balls into the box
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Shaw was out motm for me.

There has been a strange but noticeable improvement in his crossing in the last 2 games.

Don't know if he's worked on it since Telles' arrival - if so one wonders why on Earth he hasn't bothered for the past 6 years.

------------------------------------------------

I think they were the better team in the first half despite us taking the lead and them not creating a whole lot. They had us penned in for large periods like Arsenal did but Arsenal for all their creative issues have better players in attack than Leipzig and it made more of a difference.

Leipzig up until a point did well on Wednesday but through a combination of us improving in the second half and their naivety, common when it comes to Bundesliga sides, they played right into our hands and we took full advantage. If you give our attackers the space that Leipzig did, they can absolutely destroy any team.
