Sky Sports Transfer Panel has made a list of the top 20 transfers in premier league history.
https://www.skysports.com/share/12172596
Cristiano Ronaldo
Henry
Cantona
Frank Lampard
Roy Keane
Drogba
Campbell
Rooney
Kompany
Shearer
Salah
Kante
Bergkamp
van Dijk
Zola
David Silva
Vieira
Hazard
Aguero
Cech
I think it’s a good list which is obviously subjective. As the article says some big names were missed off; they note Rio & Vidic.
What do you think? Did they miss anyone out? Is the order about right?
Personally Lampard looks a little bit high up on the list for me. He scored a hell of a lot of goals for Chelsea and for a long time but way ahead of Vieira for example?

Roman elevated Chelsea, no one else. Do you think Chelsea have won what they have on the back of signing Zola, or because Roman came in and blew everyone out the water in the transfer market.
Zola may have had an influence on Chelsea to a degree, but you’re definitely overstating his long term effect.

What?
We are talking 1996 not 2004 for Chelsea mate.
Exactly what Chelsea fan in 1996 thought they'd win anything???? No trophies since 70 or 71??
Zola is the magic the exact same was as cantona provided the arrogance to Utd.
Forget Roman abramovich when it comes to talking Zola.

What is this based on? Value for money? Longevity? Trophies won?
Im sure opposition fans will disagree but sami hyypia who signed for about 2.5m, won numerous trophies and played over 400 games for the club deserves a mention. Id argue thats a transfer even above vvd.

Aguero and De Bruyne lol. VVD shouldn't be on the list. Paid an extortionate fee and they are top of the table without him

actually ronaldos deal was better

Keane.
Although at the time he was quite pricey - but still a lot cheaper than Collymore was at the time
But Ronaldo and Rooney were also bargains.

the difference between a van der saar and a zola is massive
all vds did was end utds embarrassment in goal. utd still had a dominant position.
zola is a massive influence on chelsea
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Massive influence on Chelsea what though? He joined them when they were a team looking to break into the top 4 with the occasional cup run and left them exactly the same. He was a great little player but let's not pretend he changed the club or elevated them to a new level.... because he didn't.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Agree with this. Zola was a fantastic player. But he didn't propel Chelsea to anything special. There is an argument that VDS was is the 2nd best PL keeper ever. And he cost 1.5m.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
zola, if memory serves was the only player to win player of the year having joined in january, the guy was a phenomenom and put chelsea on the map, helped us buy better players and was key to our transformation of nearly runs to when roman took over.
Also cheap as chips. To say he didn't elevate the club to new levels is ridiculous, apparently he had a hand in the clubs change of diet and training. Was a model professional and probably our second best ever pl player.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
VDS was probably the best keeper in world at the time and cost 1.5m. Zola cost 3 times that a decade earlier. We won 4 pl titles and a CL in his 6 years. VDS was easily the better deal. That doesn't zola wasnt a fantastic player. But we we got from VDS for 1.5m, considering Buffon had previously gone for 32m, was ridiculous.
