New Champions League format

Simon Stone @sistoney67
Told its 99% certain the new 36 team Champions League, including 10-match 'Swiss style' first section from 2024 will be agreed and signed off within next 36 hours.

Thoughts?? Arsenal might finally get to play in the CL again

They wouldn’t be dead rubbers, as they’d still be competing for seeding.

Also it's 100 extra matches to end up with 12 teams (4 down from currently) exiting at the group stage is a farce.

Exciting for someone somewhere presumably.

I’m not arguing that, I’m saying the games will be more meaningful.

It sucks even more than I thought it would.

Sporting merit goes right out the window, to cater for a 'bigger club' just because they've finished higher in the league in past seasons. That's the biggest load of nonsense ever. It's shameful. A team on merit and performance demoted for a bigger club that bottled it over the course of a campaign.

Then go and watch that team bottle it in the greedy league. Beyond laughable.

Tbh the current group stages are kind of sucky unless a couple of big teams get put against each other. Which has been happening quite a lot over the last few years in fairness.

So the first 8 teams to advance from the mini European super League will qualify for next season's champions League? And then teams 9-24 will have play offs to determine who advances. Doesn't sound too bad to me. maybe the novelty will wear off after a couple of years though.

When is the start cut off for starting historical success. Two of the so called big six have only been successful in relatively recent seasons.
