Can you summarise the key changes Arab?

swiss style presumably means that it will be dull and unmemorable, with everyone complaining that "it's not as good as the french/italian/german style"

The Swiss Model is the one most liked for a few reasons; it provides more games against other big teams, which means more revenue and interest, whilst not putting so much pressure on domestic competitions that means teams would require to exit leagues or play second-string teams.

Here's how it could work:

- 32 teams will be split into four seeded pots, as they are currently

- Each team will play 10 matches, five at home and five away

- These fixtures are derived based on your seeding. So, for example, if Manchester United were seeded in pot one, they could expect two matches against other pot one teams, three matches against pot two and three, and two against pot four

- The home and away structure at the moment is therefore scrapped

- Once all 10 matches have been played, all 32 teams are entered into a giant league table

- The top eight teams automatically qualify for the knockout stages, and are also guaranteed entry into the following season's competition

Sounds bloody awful. Maybe I’m misunderstanding

Sounds really fun. I like it

I will support the structure which ensures United are guaranteed a spot in the competition. I have never seen the Champions League.

as per usual in recent decades FIFA have copied FIBA (european basketball)

The new CL format will be almost a carbon copy of Euroleague Basketball

Swiss style means money laundering.

eventually , just as in eurobasket , clubs will play every other team in the one league home and away (34 matches), then the top 8 will go through to the KOs

it will dilute the domestic leagues relevance alot

the premier league teams will be the ones who may argue against this as the premier league already generates a huge amount of revenue and domestic interest

Sounds like an interesting idea personally and I think it does a lot more for the smaller clubs and smaller nations than what the current format does, which would be of benefit to them.

Whether it does change what happens or whether we will just continue to see the richer clubs make the KO stages (and subsequently the next seasons guaranteed places) will be interesting.

So more pointless pre knockout games to endure?

All the good players will be retired by then anyway.

there's no doubt clubs like madrid and barca want a euroleague basket, type of tournament

ie. a proper 34 match a season regular league before the KOs

they would both then take la liga as a secondary competition and field 2nd string teams for domesstic footy

posted on 30/3/21

Didn’t UEFA learn from the 2 group stage period that more of these games dilute the quality of the tournament?

Peks

Don’t Barca and Real both currently make quite a bit from La Liga as money isn’t distributed fairly?

i think the big clubs , like madrid, dont want clubs from the smaller leagues to compete in the new league tbh

as in: 18 team league (4 from england, spain, germany, italy, 2 from france)

The only people in favour of this will be pot hunting glory supporters who watch from their couch.

I am in favour if this and I don't watch from my couch. Sometimes in bed on my laptop.

Football is my favourite TV show but the last few series have been dull so it definitely needs a shake up. Reformatting the series from 2024 is a good idea. They need to ditch new characters brought in recently like Man City and Red Bull. No one tunes in for them. Bring back classic characters like AC Milan. Hopefully the new format ensures that these characters feature in more episodes in coming years.
