Van Nistelrooy

After El Clasico last night I flicked over to SkySports and throughly enjoyed the RVN goal compilation they had on. What a great player he was for us, as much as he was a box player he didn’t half have great goals in his game; albeit from close range. One in particular against Leicester was outrageous in 03/04, with a tremendous control and finish.

One of our best ever strikers for sure, I saw recently Gary Neville made the point that United only won 1 title with Ruud in the side; the Sky pundit questioning his work rate at times as he only contributed goals but for me that was nonsense. The reason he won only 1 title is because Arsenal were ridiculous at that time and soon after that Jose stormed in and paid cash for back to back titles the way City are now. Shame how he left the club but what a great player.

Favourite memory of Ruud for me has got to be either the goal against Fulham or when he helped end Arsenal’s unbeaten streak in 2004. Can’t wait for us to have a world class number 9 again next year and maybe with a bit more luck bring the title home. Feel free to share your favourite RVN memories below. His goal against Charlton away in 05/06 was also just ridiculous too, YoutTube it!

Gary Neville is clueless on a lot of things he says. Most overrated pundit on tv.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Do you mean he's not a clued-up as you are on top leve,l professional football, by any chance?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
And why would Neville know more about RVN's workrate than Ron?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Other pundits who played professional football at a high level also disagree with a lot of things he says.

It's a shame as a United fan that the Liverpool pundits are far more knowledgeable and make better points e.g. Souness, Carragher, Murphy etc.

But Ron, unfortunately for you, you are not one of these pundits who played professional football at a high level to have opinions above theirs or Gary Neville.

Souness Carragher and Murphy didnt play with RVN for years so I would say Neville knows best on this one.

Your dislike and anger of all things Man United is clouding your judgement if you think all ex Liverpool players know better than all ex Man United players on the telly.

He talks rubbish a lot of the time.

Him and Carragher were having a discussion about what players should get into the England team, specifically debating TAA. Then Neville kept repeating about how nobody should question Southgate because he did so amazing at the last world cup.

Ignoring that England did not beat a single quality team on the way to the semi, and lost to every decent team they played.

He didn't only contribute goals, but was a major part of the fear factor lineup causing teams to be pinned on their own halves.
In all his games I've seen he was never lazy or felt too good to close down his man, but it's true he wasn't as hard working as Kuyt or Rooney.
I do feel part of Nevilles perception of RVN not being hardworking is because he was one of the first strikers who knew best how to abuse the then new offside rule. He even once scored a goal for the Dutch team by going behind the backline to bypass the offside trap and coming back to score when play went on. Everybody including me was so sure that must have been offside...

I like Neville as a pundit. Carragher is good too to be fair... Richards and Keane are entertaining as well

Did he say nobody can question Southgate?

Gary made an excellent argument for having TAA in the squad but why Southgate would probably not start him against certain teams and certain opposing players.

Much better analysis than Carragher.

Even before he arrived (a year late due to injury) he was very clearly perfect for both the EPL and, more importantly, MUFC.

I've rarely been that excited about the expected arrival of a player before or since
