The curious case of Anthony Martial

I'm really struggling to put my finger on this one.

Whether you rate Martial or not I think it goes without saying that he's a far better player than what he's shown us for the past 12 months. I'd really love to give him the benefit of the doubt after yesterday's performance and say it was due to him recently returning from a long lay-off. That probably contributed, but unfortunately what we saw yesterday has become the norm with him - fully fit or not.

People like to pin it on his attitude and mentality but I think even more concerning is that for some reason he seems to have suffered a physical decline. He's not showing that burst of pace we always associated him with, and just seems a much less agile, more cumbersome player in general. You could probably count on one hand the number of times he beat a man last season when it used to be the thing he was best at. It almost remimds me of a Sanchez/Torres type sudden drop-off, except you'd think he's nowhere near old enough for that to happen.

I hate to see it because I was one of those who thought we had a future superstar on our hands after his first season. But it really is last chance saloon for him now. Quite honestly, Daniel Janes is a more effective player than the Martial we saw yesterday and for most of last season.

Lwt me help ypu out.

What you meant to ask me, was how could the club have affirded a top CF this window.

My answer would be to have used the Sancho money to sign one.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The club also needed a right winger
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Less so than a CF given Greenwoods performances from the right plus the addition of Amad.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I suspect Sancho will be more effective wide than Greenwood, and Greenwood will be more effective through the middle than out wide. Like your post, it's just conjecture at this stage though.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeh, I reckon Greenwood is going to be more CF than winger this season, but we will see.

Conjecture?

Greenwood HAS performed on the right. Sancho MAY.

Oh the irony.

I don't think you know what irony actually means

Ha, ha, It's conjecture because you can't know if Sancho will be more or less effective wide than Amad or Greenwood, or if him being there will make Greenwood more effective through the middle as none of it's happened yet.

And there's still no irony anywhere in this conversation, you need a dictionary, RDD

I KNOW Greenwood is good from the Right.

You dont KNOW Sancho will be.

The irony is you calling my statement conjecture, when in fact, yours was.

He was the first to say his post was conjecture though, so there's nothing ironic about it...

RDD still doesn’t understand why people easily know it is him whenever he comes back with a new sign in.

It is the level of thickness.
