The Return Of The King (Rashford)

Great to see Rashford back in the starting line-up last night.

Obviously he will need a few more starts before he is 100% match fit, but even last night he showed what we have been missing. His pace and movement are a real threat and he keeps on making those dangerous runs in between the two CBs or out of the left channel. Bruno knows when he picks the ball up that Rahford will be making that run (same with Ronaldo).

I know that Rashford missed a few chances last night and there was also a few times where I think that he made the wrong decision. However, to me he looked to be moving as well as I have seen since he sustained his back injury. Since then he has had a few other injuries and the back injury is one that can take a long time to fully recover from. Still early, but it does look to me like the prolonged rest was much needed and has had the desired effect. Hopefully in a couple of weeks we will see the lad back to his best after about 18 months of him playing with injuries.

Finally, I think that there were some positive signs last night of how he can link with and interchange with Ronaldo. Some of the criticism of Ronaldo has been that he doesn't do much other than score. Well for me he was a lot more involved in the approach play last night and I feel that a lot of that was down to Rashford being back in the starting line-up. I am looking forwards to seeing how they develop their relationship on the pitch.

Thought he was great yesterday considering it was his first start in months. He missed a few but I’d put that down largely to being a little rusty. Huge player for us and now he’s fixed his shoulder no reason we can’t see him improve even more.

He won’t play there. When will you guys realise that lol. He’s not displacing Greenwood any time soon.

"When will you guys realise that"

I don't speak for anyone else. What gives you that impression?

Well he was clearly bought for the right side. If he performs to the level he did at Dortmund then he has every chance of displacing Greenwood who’s long term future isn’t on the right.

The other day I did state I'd go with Rashford, Cavani and Lingard as our front three v Liverpool. Ronaldo's performance last night has changed my opinion slightly now. He was much more involved than he has been and still managed to get into the box.

Perhaps this weekend, on reflection, we could go with Cavani and Ronaldo up top with Cavani nominally starting from the right? At times yesterday I felt Greenwood was hanging back from attacking the goal from the right side when balls were played in from the left. That could be harsh on Greenwood but Rashford, Ronaldo and Cavani would certainly keep the Liverpool defence and full backs honest. It may mean dropping Bruno back a bit deeper but I don't think that's an issue if he plays from the right of midfield and looks for balls into the box/over the top for our forwards.

He doesn't really have to replace Greenwood. I think that Sancho will play sometimes on the left and sometimes on the right as players are rotated.
