Recruitment

Since SAF left, I have watched utd make poor managerial appointment after another. I can categorically say that I was strongly against all the managerial appointment based on my knowledge of them at the time although after they joined all I hoped was for success until that hope died.

Think of all the good managers that we could have gotten in that time but didn't due to being indecisive. In every case there was a small window of opportunity when we could have signed most of these mangagers. My theory is the lack of football knowledge at the club hampers our confidence in making the right decisions quickly enough. A common theme with our recruitment.

Now we are at a junction where it is clear even for the most avid ole fans that ole is not the man to take us forward. What do we do? Act aggressively to get a better manager or sit on the decision until other clubs get these managers while moaning about lack of managerial options. If I was a betting man I know what I will bet on but let's up I'm wrong.

Lets say Ferguson was always planning on retiring in 2013, why didn't he tell a single person (not even Gil) he was going to until his sister in law passed? Hypothetically had she not what would he have said then?

I know the club are run terribly but I think Ferguson's sister in law passing was so unfortunate and really caused a big headache for the club as there was no one suitable so late.

Plus the time he did announce he’d leave in 2001/2002 cost us the title so perhaps he wanted to do all he could to keep it under wraps to make sure we had zero distractions for 2013

I wonder if most top managers realised how much of a thankless task it would be taking over from SAF and stayed away from it.

good point.

many pundits at the time suggested that it would be Moyes successor would be the one to properly get to grips with being 'The Man United manager'

....So we got LVG

Sad to think our pitch to Klopp was to make United the ‘Disneyland’ of football. No wonder he laughed and stayed away.

Sounds like LVG didn't particularly like what he heard from Ed either but was probably at a stage in his career where he wasn't as in demand as Klopp.

It’s odd to think LVG is still in the game. Thought his time with us killed off whatever joy he had in the game. I wanted him gone more than anyone but sacking him the moment he won the FA cup was shocking and apparently if I remember correctly he was told by his wife as she read it on social media.

Am I the only one that thinks the idea of Ferguson telling Pep to let him know before excepting another job is a bit arrogant?

Managers long past their best still get job, I'm sure Jose will still be getting some relatively big ones over the next few years too. Look at Ranieri.

a bit is an understatement
but I think saf did it in the spirit of being a gentleman and respecting that pep was on a sabatical

using the analogy of pursuing a hot girl who has jus left a long term relationship. Imagine telling her to call you when she is ready for another relationship instead of giving her a reason to want another relationship whith you

To be fair though this list did start with Ferguson's preferred appointment of Moyse... And look how well that went
