Realistically you will do nothing until you sort the board out. The rot starts there.

The issue for the past few months has always been is there actually a suitable replacement? Currently it would seem the managers who are available and considered good are Conte or Zidane, neither of which I would personally want as I don't think they quite fit. Then there are managers like Ten Hag or even Rodgers who are still in work and most likely not available until at least the summer.

We can't rush this decision and it's key we make the right one so for me it probably makes more sense to have an interim manager (who has no chance of taking the job full time) just to make a clean break and then look into who can come in over the summer.

I think we also seriously need to look into recruitment with our coaches. Neither Carrick or McKenna have any real first team coaching experience while it's unsure what Phelan actually does. While Ramsey the set piece specialist (also friend of McKenna) also has no first team coaching experience and is only 29. However I'm sure whoever does come in will bring their own people.

Now we are at a junction where it is clear even for the most avid ole fans that ole is not the man to take us forward. What do we do? Act aggressively to get a better manager or sit on the decision until other clubs get these managers while moaning about lack of manageral options. If I was a betting man I know what I will bet on but let's up I'm wrong.
------------------------
They're going to sit on there ar$e and watch other clubs snap up the remaining good managers like they've been doing for the past 8 years. Thought there was a restructure within the club since Ole was put in place, looks to me like its the same old. Ole was put in place to make all the fans feel like the executive board and owners care about the Utd traditions, since he did an acceptable job....as in the bare minimum, they got all giddy and thought that's it, this is the man. Now $hit has hit the ceiling they don't know what to do.

....

And that's the reality, there is no one out there that's assured to be anyway better than what is there now.

Let's go back to the very beginning. SAF was leaving and we had the opprtunity to maybe recruit one of the best managers in the world (pep). Our attempt was a hotel meeting between the 2. While city subsequently moved heaven and earth to sign him.

The point I am trying to make is that the stars don't usually align and waiting for them to do so is usually futile as there will be other more aggressive clubs who would force the stars to align in their favour.

While a manager like ten hag might look settle at ajax there are so many things utd can do now to get him(maybe for next summer) that I am 100% sure we wouldn't but another club will.

Martial law - I am surprised you know I recommend jardim. He is not a popular choice just a personal favourite

The Ferguson replacement was made very difficult with the death of his sister in law. It’s completely changed Ferguson’s priorities and put the club in a difficult position where they didn’t have the time to bring in the right replacement. Pep he already picked Bayern and Ancelotti Real.

That's the sort of attitude that leaves you stuck with Ole until he calls it a day. Just because there are no guarantees, doesn't mean you should stick with a certain failure.

I don't know if you realise that you are making my point for me. Pep went to bayern because bayern did the hardwork behind the scenes to get him. They had a clear plan that wasn't derailed by evening winning the UCL. Utd on the otherhand arranged for pep to meet saf in a meeting that wasn't even clear to pep he was being offered the job.

Utd need to be aggressive to get the best managers and players because they are usually not hanging around and have many suitors

Moyes
LVG
Mourinho
How's that strategy working?

Pay the redundancy, pay the agent and the sign on fee all for the same result.

Garner

But how could United have got Pep before if Ferguson had no intention of retiring until his step sister passed away? From what I read back then Ferguson and Gil regularly spoke about possible replacements but the death sadly put a spanner in the works.

Ferguson didn't go to NY to offer Pep the job, from what I read it was a casual visit where they spoke and I'm guessing Ferguson told him that he'd love for him to take the job one day but seeing as Ferguson had no plans to retire how could he offer him it?

Exactly.
I am not sure where the mindset of not trying again because you failed previously comes from. I have seen so many utd fans say this, I am actually worried.

Zidane

Unknown how he would do at United, did brilliantly at Real where he's a huge part of their history and knew the club well having been asistant to Ancelotti.

Conte

Very good manager but question marks over whether we have the squad for him to work well with and like LVG and Jose he's a nutter and maybe we've had enough of them.

Marcelo Gallardo

Huge risk taking someone from another continent who's never managed or even played in the PL and imagine how upset SE85 would be.

Erik Ten Hag

Isn't available yet.

Rodgers

Probably isn't available yet.
