These things annoy me verily and I wish could be changed. Football would be so much more enjoyable if the football lawmakers read this and take heed.
1) Time wasting substitutions. How much more enjoyable would it be if substitutions were banned after the 85th minute? No more 92nd min sub where it’s purely designed to run the clock down which never gets added on.
2) Referees not adding correct time on. As per the last point how annoying is it when the ref adds say, 3 mins injury time on and the GK for example takes ages to take a goal kick and then gets booked for time wasting but the referee never adds that 30 seconds on. Only encourages GKs to keep doing it in every game. The rule should be that if a GK gets booked for time wasting that’s an automatic 1 min added to the clock.
3) VAR. I’ve grown to quite like it tbh but the pantomime of the ref going to look at the incident on the screen always ends with the same result but 2/3 mins have surpassed and the decision is changed. How hard would it be for VAR to make the ultimate decision on all calls from the gantry if there’s any doubt? If the referee going to the screen always had a 50/50 ‘will he, won’t he’ outcome then fair enough but it’s never anything but a turnaround now. Pointless.
4) When the commentator says ‘oh, there is the draught excluder’ when a player lies down at a free kick. It was mildly amusing the first time, not 100000 times later.

they need to stop the clock when the ball is out of play or stopped
would be the biggest revolution in football history if they did that
in an average match, i bet the ball is in play for no more than 20 mins

NFL games are 1 hour playing time. Most take close to 3 hours to complete. Same with NBA 4X12 minute quarters take 2.5 hours. NHL 3X20 minute periods 2.5 hours. Soooo a ninety minute game with stop-time? 3 hours minimum?Not in January.

2) Penalty retaken when it went well wide because of slight encroachment
3) kicking the ball out for an injured player. Unless it’s a serious head injury play should go on
4) players getting booked for taking off their shirt after scoring

I’m on the same boat. Haven’t been to a football game since before the pandemic so might as well enjoy it.
Me too although a defeat for Portugal is a bad result and means the Serbs will only need a draw so I’d imagine they’ll be up for it.

60 min matches would be great tbh. As you say, stop the ball when out of play and you get far more football in that 60 mins

They do this in US college soccer. Well they half do it - the ref stops the clock for injuries, bookings and some other shenanigans but not throes or goal kicks. Sometimes they actually add some extra time back on if they think they haven't stopped the clock soon enough!
I thought I'd enjoy it but don't because it removes that frisson of doubt at the end that he'll maybe add that 30s the goalie wasted after all and you get another chance or have to hold out. When it gets to 10s left the fans count down and the players just fckn stop and sometimes just walk off - it does my nut!
