The Russian invasion of Ukraine

Apparently it’s not happening until after the Winter Olympics as Xi Jinping doesn’t want it to upstage the huge event/propaganda situation there 😂

Either way, something has to happen at some point as it’s logistically difficult to keep 100,000 troops sitting there indefinitely. Imo if it does happen it’ll be a quick fairly unchallenged ‘war’ and within days Russia will install a pro Russian government in Kiev and no one will do about it sadly. Bloody well hope I’m wrong for once 😜

Hugo Chavez took power in Venezuela in 1999. I'm sure the Cold War was over by then.
And you don't think there any similarities between the current situation in Ukraine and The Cuban missile crisis of the early 60s? Okay.

Vindictive barsterds the Yanks are too. The Cold War ended more than 30 years ago, and they still won't lift the embargo on Cuba.

My brother just had his bank account blocked by ING for making a charitable donation to a healthcare group who have been trying to help Cuba develop its COVID vaccine to take it to market.

He lives in the Netherlands, and the bank blocked his account as his donation was judged to have violated the (illegal) US embargo.

Its so fekin weird that relationship. I posted on here about a treatment Cuban scientists have come up with that looks like it could be a cure/treatment for lung cancer and are now in some kind if partnership with a hospital in Buffalo(?) (If I remember right).

As a lefty, I should acknowledge there are major human rights issues in Cuba, and the US has a right to factor those into their relationship with neighbours. But the fact that in the meantime they have tolerated - and, oh yeah, trained - paramilitary death squads in other parts of Latin America, someone diminishes the moral high ground.

Iran-Contra. Dealing with Iran whilst an embargo was supposedly ongoing. Well so much for the defenders if democracy and human rights.

As they always have done.

My favourite Cuba/USA story is that the US has been sending cheques to Cuba for decades to use Guantanamo but Cuba refuse to cash the cheques out of principal.

Oh, and watch Juan of the Dead. Great Cuban zombie movie.

I liked the CIA plots to assassinate Castro. A cigar that would blow up when lit was the best.

😂 I’m sure that was an Inspector Gadget episode

There's a Malcolm Gladwell talk out there about how Cuba spent years taking the pizz out of the CIA's ace of spies. It's brilliant.
