Why do Spurs never win games in hand?

You can bet your bottom dollar that when there are games in hand, or any kind of alternative advantageous situations, spurs will never capitalise. we just never do it.

why is this? no matter who plays for us, who owns us, who manages us, what ground we play at, its always the same thing.

is it mentality related?
is it quality related?
Is it preparation?
is it expectancy level?

is it a combination of everything?

my vote is always mentality as the weak mentality is a poison in the club, and has been for as long as I have been supporting spurs (1995 onwards).

how can this be fixed?? we have a team full of international players, international captains, world cup winners, copa america winners, league title winners in other countries, golden boot winners, puskas award winners, players of the year, players of the month, goal of the season players, etc etc etc

conte as our manager, had jose, had poch, had other top managers who were successful elsewhere. even george facking graham the boring caant couldnt solidify us.

united drop points. chelsea dont play. wolves play arsenal...

so what do spurs do? the usual...

we will probably turn wolves over on sunday (harder game of the two), and be thinking what a wasted opportunity yesterday was.

Spursy is what it is. I hate the term, and wish the team would make it extinct, but its just so so spursy, all the time

-------------Kane Son**
Reg Bentancur Hojbjerg* Royal*
--------------Skipp
-----Davies* Dier Romero
--------------Lloris

*big upgrades needed
**another physical number 9 needed
----------------------------------------------------------------------
we need 2 rwbs, we also may need to look at LWB but thats not a priority. not convinced by sess at all.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
well its not realistic to get in more than 4 or 5 and i wouldnt want to in one window as it increases the amount that we actually bring in who arent even upgrades

sign the right 4 players
----------------------------------------------------------------------
yeah.. the surgery on the squad is over the next 3 windows.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No question its gonna be a frustrating 18 months ahead but like you said.... Levy putting us in this position when he prioritized the stadium over the team... wont make any difference whether you have Conte, Pep, Nuno, Poch etc

Tbf, the way Southampton play is like kryptonite to the midfield and defence you had out last night. They're just not good enough on the ball to evade Southampton's press.

Read a stat that both Sanchez and Emerson lost possession 17 times EACH in yesterday’s game.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This is shocking but not a suprise

Emerson was all over the place , by far his worse game

Sanchez is just a liability who was showing decent form but a massive crash back to reality last night ….he can’t even make simple 5 yard passes….he smashes at people and usually behind them too

Rodon must be truly awful in training to not even get a chance over him or Davies …..Davies was garbage last night too

Feel sorry for Romero trying to keep things together with these bunch of phannies around him

Because we are a club with a weak, bottle-job mentality.
Even during our best period of recent times under Poch.

Should have renamed ourselves "Missed Opportunities Hotspur" long time ago.

Like said above, don't matter who plays, who owns or who manages, the will always fail to take advantage of any opportunity to move forward.

That's why we have the world record for the number of FA Cup semi's lost, why we never 'cross that imaginary line' in crucial games.

Is so ingrained now, the club will never shake their reputation.

The only constant is the fans so probably them.

It's the fans. Their lofty expectations just don't square with reality. No wumming but Spurs fans think they're a massive club, but actually you're on par with the likes of Everton.

Take the pursuit of Luis Diaz, for example. Have a look at this clip

It doesn’t seem to matter who our manager is or what players we have, it’s always the same
I’ve come to the conclusion that clubs have a kind of indelible history that affects the present day. Like spurs are historically a club that doesn’t win much, bottle jobs, basically “spursy” up situations. And that affects the mentality of the current squad.
