Ralf on new manager

Ralf Rangnick says he has an opinion on who should be the next Manchester United boss but is yet to discuss the subject with the club's hierarchy.

United's interim manager is the seventh occupant of the Old Trafford dugout - including caretaker spells by Ryan Giggs and Michael Carrick - since legendary boss Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013.

They are searching for another permanent manager once more while trying to secure a top-four finish and progress into the latter stages of the Champions League.

Manchester United football director John Murtough says a "thorough process" is under way as the club looks to start challenging for "top trophies" again.

But that process has not yet extended to asking for Rangnick's view.

"So far, we've not spoken about that," he told Sky Sports News.

"Not with John Murtough or anyone else, we've not spoken about this topic over the last weeks and months since I've been here. I know my opinion but so far we've not spoken about that so it's all I can tell you."

Mauricio Pochettino remains the favourite for the United job, according to the bookmakers, and in November Sky Sports News reported that he would be interested in the role.

Erik ten Hag is also among the favourites for the job, and his work at Ajax has won the admiration of Rangnick.

"I don't know him to start with as a person, but I've seen how Ajax have developed since he's been there," Rangnick said.

"I know about the work he did while he was at Bayern Munich and it's obvious he's one of the top coaches in Europe but there are a few others.

"We've not spoken about any new manager so far and therefore we've not spoken about him."

=========================

1. Interesting to hear that he rates Ten Hag highly.

2. Why the feck has he not been spoken to about the next manager? Surely if he is being kept on in a consultancy role, he should be having some input into who the next manager will be? What does this mean? That he won't be asked for his input? That we haven't started looking at the new manager? That the new manager his already been chosen/lined-up?

dunc - johnny lawrence is my sensei

its amazing how people do not understand the most simple of things.

so say Utd arent a big team anymore is moronic.

Utd are on of the biggest clubs on the planet... you cant get much bigger.

the brand is massive.

Do not get confused between success on the pitch and how big the club really is.

------

I agree with a great deal of that, but surely you see the problem implicit in your last sentence?

Do you went players who want to go to a big club and pull in easy money, or hungry players who want to win things? At the moment Man U is full of the former and seemingly having difficulty attracting the latter.

christ, there are few things more boring in modern football than opposition fans queuing up to tell us that united are not a big club, that no top players will want to join us, that's it's not the 90s anymore etc etc.

every sodding article in which united fans attempt to discuss possible transfer targets it's the same routine

It shouldn’t need explaining why moving from West Ham to United is a massive step up, Elvis. Not sure why you’ve bothered with Maf’s triplet.

Don & Anthony

Your both missing my point, which I'll get back on...

...but first "It shouldn’t need explaining why moving from West Ham to United is a massive step up", maybe, but currently it does...but I digress.

Oh yes my point, no one is saying Man U are not still a big club, however like it or not your current attractiveness as a destination for a top player or manager is nearer to that of Spurs than Man City's Liverpool's or Chelsea's. It's a simple failure of Man U fans to admit there are now at least three clubs just in England that will match your wages and offer a greater chance of trophies.

we all know that, it's kinda hard to miss.

but you would have spotted - if you'd bothered to read replies to you, rather than just ignoring anything contrary to your preferred narrative - that i have already said

"so that's why he would switch from west ham to united, whether he'd rather move to chelsea, or city, or bayern, and whether any of those will want and be able to sign him, i have no idea. "

if rice goes for, say, £80m, there are about a dozen clubs in the world who could pay that figure, and we're one of them. and we're one of, maybe 5, clubs in england that could pay that.

are liverpool in the market for a (largely defensive) midfielder? what is spurs' transfer budget for next summer? will chelsea give kante one more year, or will they bin him as injury prone? who will chelsea's new owner be, and what money will he make available for transfers?

answer me all of those with a fair degree of certainty and we'll stop talking about rice.

so there is no failure of comprehension on our part, thanks.

According to the Athletic, Ralf insisted on a 3 year deal as that was what he had at the Russian club he left for us.

His 'consultancy' role hasnt yet been defined.

Bigger stadium/crowd - Just

Bigger wage - more for CL team though

Signing on fee - bigger if he waits a year and wind's down his contract

Higher earning potential through endorsements (especially if captain) - dependent on winning things again soon, not guaranteed

Playing for one of the biggest teams in the world - Oh nostalgia, your at best 4th biggest team in England right now

More chance of winning trophies - More chance than West Ham, yes, but many better options out there

More chance of playing in CL (perhaps not this season) - see the one above

Opportunity to play under a better manager (Poch or Ten Hag) - Because all the managers Man U have had since Moyes have been so demonstrably better than him. lol

Playing for a buying team rather than a selling team - Any team he went to would be ipso facto a "buying team"

Opportunity to help United back to the top - or get caught in a long contract in a team that at current shows no sign of arresting its long slide
_______

Look I'm not saying there are not good reasons why Man U may be more attractive than West Ham, but next season if your not in the CL? He will get far better offers than Man U, you seem to think it's still the Ferguson years. There are many possible destinations much shinier than Old Trafford right now.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No we don't think it is still the SAF years. Stop being a berk. You asked for reasons why he would wan to leave West Ham for United and I have given you some. Now all of the sudden you have involved other teams and said that he would prefer them over us. Well yes, he might. But the idea that there aren't any reasons that we would opt for United over West Ham is laughable. As I said, each player has their own motivations, so even considering those reasons, Rice might still prefer to stay at West Ham. But lets not pretend that United aren't still a big draw for a lot of players. All you have do do is look at the signings we have made in recent years, despite our struggles. We have this same conversation with nuggets like you every week when we get linked with a player.

No its fecking not. This is just made up narrative that mugs like you make up because you are desperate to have a dig. We know where we are. We know that Chelsea are probably ahead of us in the queue for Rice. Which is why Robb has suggested that with Chelsea changing ownership, we might be able to steal a march on them and get a deal for Rice done. Stop making crap up, because we get this same rubbish every week. Its boring.

Bigger stadium/crowd - Just - Don't you average about 60,000?

Bigger wage - more for CL team though - What? We gave Pogba 300k a week when not in the CL. I believe we also have the 2nd highest wage bill. Wages aren't an issue.

Signing on fee - bigger if he waits a year and wind's down his contract - How do you know? United might be prepared to give him a big signing on fee to get the deal done. Especially if Chelsea are still waiting for a new owner.

Higher earning potential through endorsements (especially if captain) - dependent on winning things again soon, not guaranteed. - Incorrect. Anyone playing for United has a huge potential to earn from endorsements due to the size of the club all over the world, irrespective of trophies. Its laughable that you even consider West Ham as being in the same league in that respect.

Playing for one of the biggest teams in the world - Oh nostalgia, your at best 4th biggest team in England right now. - No, we aren't the 4th biggest. We are the 4th/5th best, at what is probably our lowest point for 30 or so years. But we will spend money on the squad. We always do. And if we get the right manager in, things can change quickly in football.

More chance of winning trophies - More chance than West Ham, yes, but many better options out there. - Yes, more chance of West Ham. But that was the question you asked wasn't it? Why would he leave West Ham for United? Do keep up.

More chance of playing in CL (perhaps not this season) - see the one above - see the one above.

Opportunity to play under a better manager (Poch or Ten Hag) - Because all the managers Man U have had since Moyes have been so demonstrably better than him. lol - If we get Poch or Ten Hag, I'd say both are better than Moyes. Do you disagree?

Playing for a buying team rather than a selling team - Any team he went to would be ipso facto a "buying team" - You know what I mean. West Ham don't go to United and buy their best players.

Opportunity to help United back to the top - or get caught in a long contract in a team that at current shows no sign of arresting its long slide - Its a possibility. Again, depends on the motivations of the player. Does he want that challenge? For me, Rice would be the captain at United within a few years. Possibly right from the off. He might relish the challenge of goin into the club and playing a big role in returning us to our former glories.
