I’m not saying O’Shea was a bad player, far from it!

He doesn’t hold a candle to Denis though as a footballer. Irwin was a fantastic player. That sending off for the two yellows at Anfield still rankles to this day and cemented my hatred for David Elleray.

That whole back line of Parker, Dolly, Daisy and Irwin were pretty unassuming. We were very blessed back then as opppsed to the shiiitshow we have now

It was a different era. The majority of top flight players were pretty unassuming characters when Denis signed. Nowadays the majority are spoilt, know-it-all Prima Donnas with egos comparable with pop stars.

I don’t buy into statements like George Best would not be able to play in this era, etc.

You could make an argument that Irwin is the best FB of the PL area. You can't do the same for O'Shea - for any of the positions he played. He was a useful utility player, but not in the same league as Irwin. And the OP didn't say that Irwin was underrated anyway, so its kind of irrelevant. A bit like Culer.

I loved Denis and thought he was a great.
Never mind top ten, top two for me. Sadly I think Cashley was just a tad better, Denis number two? But even bearing mind that, I would still prefer Denis.

John O’Chilavert

Dennis Irwin was class. Defintely been the best fullback for Man United from the last 30 years anyway. He's a strong strong contender for best fullback of the whole premier league too.

Nope, Cole was a diver. And that makes him incomparable to a player like Irwin. More importantly indeed, he wasn't even as competent at his defensive duties as Irwin was.
