Conte's system seems to convert 'ok' wingers into excellent full backs. I think Djed Spence is hyped. When you see videos and performances of Jack Clarke before we signed him, he shows just as much talent for beating a man and assisting as Spence.

I would like to see how he performs in a championship or lower prem team as a Right Mid in a 352. In an odd way he could play a few positions if coached properly or even understudied Perisic in pre-season.
Not sure where he sees himself playing in his career but it seems there's great opportunities for many wingers to learn to be wingbacks as this trend seems to fashionable again.
If all fails in pre-season. Loan or sell to Sunderland.
I'm keen to see what Conte pre-season does for all our squad as they haven't even had one yet.

Injury

but when both were fit did he not use Doherty on the left and Royal on the right ?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Only once or twice when we had injuries IIRC. I'm sure someone will be along with stats. That and not fancying Reguilon

If all fit, Conte plays Doherty & Sessegnon.
Whether Perisic jumps in ahead of Sess, who knows. He doesnt really trust Reguillon, who has struggled to convert from LB to LWB. Very decent LB IMO, but seems a bit clueless in the final third as LWB.

Spence is very good and a real talent, he just cannot cross at all. I'd say that's an important thing in Contes system so can't see spurs paying 20m. That'd be madness tbh but way markets going, maybe players just cost dumb amount now.
Spurs prob have a list of weak areas to improve, excluding attack and romero, that's basically everywhere. They then probably get the data and outline a few targets I'm each position. Spence is probably one. Cannot see it making sense. He'd suit city more imo.
He could be a budget temp fix but I just don't see him as being better than what spurs have. Levy isn't a fool. He has spent big sums the last few years and seen most of the big fees wasted, and now spends time trying to shift them out, trying to get as small a loss as possible.
Conte likes temp fixes when he wants mass changes/improvement but I don't get how spending 20m to do it would go down well with slap head.

Yup this is where I see an issue. Spence had half the assists of Boro's RWB who was playing in a worse team. Logic should mean we should sign Isiah Jones ahead of Spence. And I wouldn't want him either.

Royal was good in all the games vs Liverpool and City good defender
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I would trust Royal against top 6. Hope he stays. However this leaves 26 games where we need a super productive RWB. I'm not sure that's Doherty. An explosive experienced assist machine would be thr dream RWB. Probably cost 60m but surely that's worth it if Conte's system needs wingbacks

Doherty came good towards the end of the season. The way he Romero & Kulu started to link up was real good. With these sort of quality players around him someone like Spence could flourish. He has the pace and power to get up and down.
I know we'd all look good on a youtube compilation but if you watch this you can see what he is capable of

This guy is worth a punt because if he can add this sort of pace and strength and direct play to that right side then we will be harder to stop. Not shy of a tackle either!
