The name: Erik ten Hag

What is the dutch translation of this name?

ten (te, ten, ter) refers to a group, in this case a group of Hag.

Hag means Ugly Old Woman.

Erik means the ruler of

So basically Erik Ten Hag means the ruler of a group of ugly old women

So he's in the right place at United

(edited to give the [wooly] dutch translation of Hag)

its translates to: The ruler and owner of a farm of witches
----------------------------------------------------------------------
or a group of ugly old women
----------------------------------------------------------------------
if you have taken one to many knocks to the head then yes you may think that.

Erik : Ruler
Ten is the title to those who owned estates technically but pretty much always refers to a farm
Hag : is a witch
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yep, for which a modern day interpretation would be group of ugly old women
----------------------------------------------------------------------

when did the word for Witches and Wizards stop meaning Witches and Wizards and become 'old slappers' in Holland?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
dutch are you ?

my mrs is .........
----------------------------------------------------------------------
fine, ask her why heks is preferable over lelijk wijf
----------------------------------------------------------------------
she said .... the two terms are not the same one means an ugly dog and the other means a wtich
----------------------------------------------------------------------
cool, now ask her what the actual dutch definition is of hag, and why it can't be either one of these
----------------------------------------------------------------------
people in holland us the term hag as witch.

if you wanna take it literally she says its a word that usually precedes the next word. so in a literal sense it used to mean a negative she type. now when the just use the term Hag on its own it means witch, or just an evil women.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You're telling me this when you don't even know it's not referred to as Holland anymore.

There's no definition of hag. It's not a frequently used term. Where are you getting this from?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I refer to it as Holland , she refers to it as Netherlands, there are still provinces that refer to themselves as holland.

I told you it came from my mrs who is dutch. If you dont wanna believe me i dont really care mate !! really I dont. You asked for info I gave you it , like I said whether you choose to believe it ... I dont really care.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The thing is you defined hag as if it was absolute when there's no actual term hag. You don't even know anything about it. It's not like ugly old woman is a a big leap from witch, it's even defined as ugly old woman in other languages.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
"f you wanna take it literally she says its a word that usually precedes the next word. so in a literal sense it used to mean a negative she type. now when the just use the term Hag on its own it means witch, or just an evil women"

is what I said ... i said it doesnt literally translate to witch but its the term that the dutch commonly use for it .
----------------------------------------------------------------------
How can someone use something commonly when it's uncommonly used?

You come in here saying that hag is actually witch like it's well defined as if you know it is and you know nothing about it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
well its used commonly enough for me to ask what the word meant and she said witch.

like I said and I quote "If you wanna take it literally she says its a word that usually precedes the next word"

but thats getting into older language. If someone calls someone a Hag today in dutch they mean witch.

like it or lump it .

Is it a literal translation? no like I said a couple times now .... she has no idea why this happened , she really doesnt care
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It's used commonly enough. When was the last time you were having conversation with someone in dutch and they said 'Hag' ?

I can't believe you're still going on about this

What's the commonly accepted definition of 'sound' in the UK. Cool, great, excellent, all of the above?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
you need to learn how to read fella.

I didnt say its a common word . I said when the word is used its commonly linked to referring to witches.

there is a difference even if you fail to pick up on it.

"I can't believe you're still going on about this"
: it was you that created the thread and keep replying to me"

this guys has loads of smarts ... i can tell.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
when was the lsat time I used the word "hag" in a dutch conversation.

Never .... you do realise that I dont actually speak dutch really, the odd word yeah. My mrs is dutch.

if you cant follow the posts and/or read properly then we are done chief!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Oh you don't speak dutch?
I really couldn't tell from your attempt to define Hag.

I mean this is just a ridiculous abuse of the reply button, isn't it?

The poster really knows how to hit United fans right where it hurts - loose translations of our manager’s name.

Just thought it would be interesting.

Seems that certain posters here don't like it though, trying and failing to change the definition of Hag to their own subjective interpretation

I've also learned that whodunnits wife is the World leading expert on the interpretation of historic Dutch words that don't exist in the dictionary and aren't hardly ever used. So for me it's been an interesting thread.
