That's Heks, it's a synonym for Wich. Old Ugly woman is more precise.

Erik : Ruler
Ten is the title to those who owned estates technically but pretty much always refers to a farm
Hag : is a witch

Around the same time wife stopped meaning woman of low employment. In case you have noticed we don't believe in witches anymore.

Have you never met a White Witch?

Many dont belive in Witches today, but they do still exist and are still called Witches and the ones references from history are still called Witches.

So are Faries and Santa Claus.

Im sure its still the same in Holland, and thier language too.

I've always wondered why the Dutch city The Hague/Den Haag was so called. If there can be a 'the' Hague then surely 'Hague' is a noun: so what is a Hague? Only just bothered to look it up:

The Hague was first mentioned as Die Haghe in 1242.[11] In the 15th century, the name des Graven hage came into use, literally "The Count's Wood", with connotations like "The Count's Hedge, Private Enclosure or Hunting Grounds". The spelling "'s-Gravenhage" was officially used for the city from the 17th century onward. Today, this name is only used in some official documents like birth and marriage certificates. The city itself uses "Den Haag" in all its communications.[12] The post office specifies that letters must be addressed to "'s-Gravenhage", but a letter to "Den Haag" will be delivered just as well. The railway stations are named "Den Haag". Signposts mention "Den Haag".

You're just guessing are you?
You do understand that semantic change would entail that a word as old as 'Hag' can't be looked up in the dutch dictionary and thus is subject to semantic interpretation and change over time.
