...therefore we have to take the flak today.
We've had some great results this year and have done better than I thought we'd do in Ten Hag's first season. However today highlighted we're still some way off it.
Liverpool have too many good players not to be capable of that from time to time and we just didn't cope with them at all in that second half. The way we collapsed was a bit worrying and I'm sure EtH will be all over that in the next few days. It also gives him great ammunition to ask for the players we really need in the side to be a really top side again.
Today need not define our season though. Thursday gives us a quick chance to respond and I hope we come out flying against Betis. For those worried about fatigue then today's result gives us an excellent excuse to change things up.
We've still got credit in the bank but today a good lesson in that we're not there yet. At the start of every journey there will be a few bumps in the road and it's how we react that'll be key.
Well done Liverpool today on a really good performance. We need to look at that now and use it as fuel for the rest of the season. They're laughing at us now so let's make sure they're not laughing in May.
We've taken the plaudits...

I actually think this is gonna be good in hindsight. Maybe not for our GD but just grounding everyone again. If we were to drop points I'd rather it be this than 2 draws at some mid tables clubs. I hope this is a painful reminder than none of our players are impeccable unstoppable and they're all p!!!!sssed off going into the next 3 games at least. And if we are to lose another couple of games, hopefully it's the EL games

That's the thing. A draw v Leicester and a draw today would have been worse points wise!

No, no, no, no, no.
Losing 7-0 at Anfield isn't just one of those things or a bad day at the office. It's the worst result in living memory, without even a close comparison that I can think of. There is literally nothing good about that.
We have to learn to lose games. I know that sounds stupid, but you do lose games. Being 6-1 down at City and 7-0 down at Anfield in the same season (plus 4-0 at Brentford at HT) shows this team still crumble to easily. Even Villa got a bit hairy at 3-0. They need to be professional and disciplined and take some pride away even if the game is gone.

They should be docked wages for losing 7-0

I have sang the manager's praises all season but we've gone to Anfield and played two men in midfield to their 3. Not only that but to try and fit in Weghorst over the last month we have moved Bruno and Rashford around constantly.
This manager has got a lot more right than he's got wrong but there's a reason we have conceded 6 at City and 7 at Liverpool. We have played far too casually and open. Hopefully this is where he learns this valuable lesson.
---------------------------------------------
Hindsight's a wonderful thing but having two in midfield and Bruno on the left weren't the main reasons why we lost.
We had some decent enough chances first half and before the first goal we were slightly in the ascendency and I thought half-time was coming at the wrong time for us.
Poor individual defending and an abysmal attitude in the second half made that game the farce it became and that can't really be pinned on the manager.

We could have won today and lost to Barca and Newcastle. Which would you choose? I'd rather drop 3 points to LFC than 4 points to the next two PL clubs

Since such a set of options was never presented to me, nor could have been, it's irrelevant what I might have chosen.
The main thing I'd say in our defence is that we've obviously played a lot of games of late, including some big ones, so we were likely to run out of steam somewhere (if indeed that's what happened). But I stand by the point that they've got to find ways to do better when a couple of goals go past them. And I'm sure Erik will be saying the same.
