IPL franchises to end international cricket

It has been leaked recently that IPL franchises have proposed multi-million pound yearly contracts to six prominent England cricketers, with a condition for them to retire from international cricket. This also applies to leading cricketers from Aus, NZ, SA and WI meaning international cricket will be severely under threat.

IPL do not only run in India but own franchises in UAE, West Indies, SA, USA and even the Saudi's want a piece.

These leagues are played throughout the year and for example Mumbai Indians will own Jofra Archer and they will decide where he plays.

International cricket will be finished if this allowed and we all know money talks. The ICC is weak and the money from India is too much. It will be a after thought like football where players will play hit and giggle cricket and then have a 2 week window to play a few international games if allowed for thier countries.

This is the end of proper cricket for me. Yes there will still be series likes Ashes but any decent player will follow the money. Let's see how strong the England and Aussies board are with this news.

Very sad if this is allowed to happen but as Kash said money talks.

I hope players will still want to play for their countries and let’s give more youngsters as chance to play test cricket.

I'd be more than happy to go back to 1 Summer Test, 1 Winter Test.

International calendar is over crowded and a balance needs to be struck. Audience want to watch shorter format and money is there. ICC need to be careful how they handle this, but with India being a massive influence I doubt they can do much. Personally I don’t care for IPL, international is where it’s at. But at the same time it’s much international throughout out the yr.

Ridiculous. Saudis changing their whole country, culture and burning millions for a abit of fame and attention. Wonkers.

I don't think the audience want to watch more dead T20 leagues. Alot of Indians are opposing this idea too but someone like Buttler will be offered football PL wages to turn his back on international cricket is a no brainer for him.

Bet they don't tell Kohli and other leading Indians players to retire from playing for India. There is a bit of malice in this idea so India can finally win international level.

The last bit is a load of horse tutti and plain and simple bias. India already dominate International Cricket across all forms. This isnt nothing but the same as the Arabs at City or Saudis at Toon or Qataris trying to but United. Its all political. India is the basic birth mother of Cricket. Fact. England we, are and always will be behind India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and the rest.
