The Greatest Failure in History of Sport

To whom it may concern,

I hope this article finds you well.

I would like to bring your attention to what may be the most serious case of catastrophic failure in the history of sport. I have just been informed that despite spending the most money in the history of the sport, all English teams have been eliminated from the Champions League and Europa League at the quarter final stages. I have provided a breakdown of the squad costs by team below (trnsfermarket purchase value):

Bayern (€475m) v Arsenal (€680m)

Man City (€936m) v Real Madrid (€573m)

Atalanta (€pizza) v Liverpool (€669m)

West Ham (€396m) v Leverkusen (€226m)

This gives us a breakdown of English clubs (€2.681bn) v Foreign clubs (€1.274bn and a pizza)

The English squads cost exactly double the amount the foreign clubs cost (excluding pizza), and yet all of the English clubs lost.

Let’s turn our attention to earlier in the competition.

Champions League Group Stage English exits:

1. Bayern (€475m)
2. Copenhagen (3 x sack of potatoes)
3. Galatasaray (7 x kebab with hot sauce, 1x hair transplant, 7x teeth)
4. Man Utd (€863m)

1. Dortmund (€314m)
2. PSG (€887m)
3. Milan (€326m)
4. Newcastle (€593m)

Even I am not smart enough to do the maths here but that is a huge amount spent by the English compared to the foreign guff.

So it begs the question, is this the biggest failure in the history of sport? Yes, teams in formula one spend ridiculous amounts, but the teams that do tend to win. They don’t tend to lose a race to a kebab riding a unicycle, which would be the equivalent.

Happy to discuss further.

Fond regards

The thing is, City will probably win the CL again next year, Newcastle will go far in the Europa and Man United will win at least one game in the Euro conference league and we will all be back to saying how wonderful English football is

The Germans piping up, the problem is, last 10 CL finals - a German club has been in it once, whereas England have had 7 representatives and Spain 8.

Spurs have appeared in as many Champions league finals as German clubs put together in the last 10 years - and I bet that neither Dortmund or Munich improve that this year.

Germany getting the co efficient will be a 1 years thing, I will happily bet England get it 4 of the next 5 years.

This is a blip mostly caused by Man United being feeble and Newcastle getting a very tough group

Why 'probably'? They've still only actually won it once despite being one of the favourites every season.

Real will add Mbappe, couple of other key signings and they will probably dominate again.
