Reality check

Sad news today to read of Chris Hoy's cancer diagnosis as being terminal. I believe his wife has also been diagnosed with MS fairly recently.

I guess the saying if you didn't have bad luck you would have no luck at all really applies here. They have 2 young kids who barring a miracle will grow up a significant part of their lives with no father.

It really does show you just don't know what's round the corner.

One of the truly great Olympians, who probably inspired so many to watch / participate in cycling. I wouldn't call myself a massive fan, but I would tune into the Olympics to watch etc.

Wish him and his family well in what they have to face.

Desperately sad news.

Quite an influential figure here in Manchester as he succesfully campaigned for the velodrome to be the UK centre for cycling.

He insisted that the velodrome should be available to anyone with any bike on certain mornings to make it more inclusive.

I've never heard anyone say a bad word about him which is unusual for anyone who reached the pinnacle in such a competitive and adreline fueled sport.

Very sad to hear this news, a double blow as well with the news of his wife’s ill health. I hope they have a good circle of family and friends who will be able to lend support.

How odd it is that a sportsman who keeps in incredible shape and fitness can fall to this horrible disease when I’ve know people who have never exercised and lived on the indulgent side of life who carry on and on…

There doesn’t seem to be a sure fire way to longevity, just the time god grants us here on earth.

Desperately sad.

I met him at an event once. Seemed such a nice guy and has so much good to give the world.

It is deeply saddening to hear this news. Chris always stood out as a consummate professional, highly knowledgeable, incredibly likable, and remarkably humble, despite his numerous sporting accomplishments.

Very sad to hear. A true British and global sporting icon and he always seemed such a nice man. Cancer is just horrible. Did he miss some early warning signs or is simply that his time is up early diagnosis or not.
