Romero played 90 minutes vs Brazil

as ARgentina thrashed them 4-1.

I read somewhere that an agreement had been reached that he would only play 1 or their 2 qualifiers but he's played both.

To spin it positively - he lasted without injury, they were victorious, and its another 90 minutes under his belt.

So hopefully he should return to Spurs HQ feeling good, sharp and confident. No excuses for being rusty!

VDV was omitted from the Dutch squad so he will also have more fitness under his belt.

Not sure on the progress of Kulusevski. He was expected to be back after the internationals, as was Richarlison, so hopefully they will also return in time for the Europa League QF, 1st leg 10th April @ WHL (15 days away) with a chance to get some game time on 3rd and 6th vs Chelsea & Saints.

We could head in to the next part of the season with all but Dragusin fit & ready!

Just wait a minute. That doesnt fit the narrative, so lets dismiss them as "comments made a long time ago" even though it was only December, and then lets pretend to know what Romero is thinking and how he's changed his mind about the coach Now the narrative is back on track.

I don't really care what the players think. We're 14th with an expensively assembled squad that should be doing better. There's obviously concern when the players down tools, which isn't happening here, but there's also concern when the tactical set, however liked by the squad, isn't working.

At some point you have to ignore how well liked a manager might be and judge him on performances. He's just not getting a tune out of the players he has and even if you apply the bad luck with injuries, before all that kicked in we were inconsistent at best. We've been a lower mid table team since November 2023, long before the injuries occurred.

If Romero loved him so much, why does he clearly want out? The bottom line is that they might like the manager to a certain degree, but if he's not even given us any European place of note, the top players will always want out. So we can sit tight and hope it comes good one day and watch our star players leave one by one, or we can cut the cord at the end of the season and get someone in that can get the most out of this squad. Ange plays his way with a squad that can't ultimately do it. He's basically Russell Martin with a better team. You can have all the principles in the world but if you're finishing 14th, there's only one way this ends, regardless of how cosy he is with the squad.

I'm kind of tired of these inflexible managers. Have a philosophy, yes, but adapt when it's necessary.

How does Romero "clearly want out"?

People keep repeating this and as a result it's accepted as fact. Fact it is not and the only quote attributed to Romero you will find him supporting the manager.

I wouldn't blame any player who thinks they may have a chance with Real etc having their head turned. Even Liverpool's one of their own has wound down his contract with his boyhood club to go to Real, so of course the likes of Romero are not going to be indefinitely loyal.

Ignoring the lengthy injury, Romero has had a poor season littered with errors, many costly, and that includes his last Argie game. I dont think his performances reflect him not wanting to be here because its been a problem all season and hopes were quite high in August

I think the departure of Ange is probably inevitable as things stand.

There have been mitigating circumstances at times but the boom and bust football has continued even with a largely fit squad.

What i do disagree on is his inflexibility.

IMO he is a victim of actually watering down his tactics. The brave new world of "it's who we are mate" is long since gone and we have changed our approach to something far more akin to the average team who tries to be aggressive and dominate.

Where we struggle IMO is that it now looks more like a half-arsed Ange-ball and as a result it's flawed.

I don't think Ange is inflexible. I think results have forced him to make changes to how we play BUT i do think he has struggled to make a tweaked more balanced tactic work. To put it in cruel terms, I think he is proving himself to be incapable rather than inflexible.

I said it before that i would much rather see us play full Ange ball for the rest of the season and see where that gets us, rather than trying to get by with a hybrid version which seems to ensure we have high possession rates but at the cost of a less effective attack, a less effective press and even more open in midfield when we lose it.

True Ange ball may not be sustainable long term but I think it would be more successful than what we are seeing now.

Go on Ange. Go out with a bang, playing your way, how it was intended to be played, full on, totally committed, relentless, super aggressive, attacking direct football.

I think it's quite naive to claim he doesn't. Reports of the kind we've seen are often leaked to the media from the players camp in order to throw out a signal of his availability. I don't really care what Romero says, even if it was only a few months ago. It's meaningless. We've seen these smoke signals a thousand times before so we know where this is heading. Usually we have some sort of bargaining chip, like CL or EL football, but right now it's looking like we've got ourselves a truly shiiiit hand, if you assume we don't win the EL. That's on Ange for making us so unattractive a proposition that our best players (most probably) want out.

I'd agree with this. When I say inflexible, granted, that was the wrong word to use. Incapable hits the right note. I'm fully aware that he's been more cautious with the attacking intent of full backs lately but he fails to see that most of our issues are actually in midfield and he's the one that constructed it. It's far too open. We have no one in there that's happy to sit and of the ones that do, like Biss, have absolutely no defensive instincts at all. He sanctioned the sale of PEH with absolutely no desire to find another in his mould. A protector. A 'just in case' player. Someone that can dictate the pace of a game and stop some of the erratic stupidity we've seen game after game. He made those decisions.

I have to say though that the latest reports out today that Ange is pretty much done and that Iraola is odds on to replace don't exactly fill me with joy. It's very much like for like. I fail to see how anything changes. It's very much a side-step. Personally I'd rather keep hold of Ange for one more year and then go begging on our hands and knees to Pochettino after the WC.

Hilarious. Begging on our hands and knees for a 3rd rate manager. Fridge completely lost the plot with his obsession with Pochettino.
