21st May is the 17 year anniversary of....

John Terry slipping and helping United beat Chelsea in the 2008 Champions League final.

If there's a better omen for tonights European final, on foreign soil, against English opposition, please comment below.

As it is, this London team will be much easier to dispatch than their blue shirted neighbours.

I do ~despise~ strongly dislike John Terry with a passion, so there is that...

Great player, but that aren't many who would beat him in a most disliked player poll

along with Dennis Wise, they can all git ta f***

I saw an article a few days ago where Makelele said that he blames Terry for the CL defeat because he changes the penalty order so he could be the hero.

“The dressing room after the game was like fire. There was no happiness whatsoever – it was a sad place to be.

“We made a big mistake ahead of the penalties. We had an order which was agreed with the players and the manager, but it changed at the last minute.

“It was supposed to be Salomon Kalou taking the last penalty but John [Terry] took the opportunity off him.

“I think we lost this connection because football is very harsh sometimes and, if you don’t do things the right way, you get punished.

“I was very angry when he missed the penalty because it was a chance that I knew a lot of the young players wouldn’t get.

“I’d won the Champions League before but, in this moment, John had to be the leader and do what was best for the team.

“He didn’t make sure we won the trophy, he tried to be a hero. If he knew this, he would have been a hero because he would have lifted the trophy.”

It does make me laugh that both Terry and Gerrard are remembered for mistakes that cost their teams dearly. Couldn't have happened to two nicer blokes.

That does sound just like him. This is up there with not playing but putting his full kit on when they collected the trophy. And when he parked in that disabled spot.

They way he adjusted the captains armband so that it was all nice and in place for his celebration speaks volumes.

I didn't mine Dennis as much. Joey B has to be up there. And I have never been that keen on Shearer or Sutton.

Same. That Joey Barton was dir'y! Was trying to think of his name earlier, you spelt it right out. Never really liked Shearer either come to think of it.

I know you can catch anyone on a 'bad day', but I have heard folk on 3 separate occasions who have come across Shearer and said that he can be a bit full of himself.

I cam across Sutton myself once, and maybe he was a bit drunk but he came across as a bit of a know-it-all

I always thought Shearer was a wrong'un based on him sometimes referring to himself in the third person in post-match interviews. Have reluctantly accepted that he comes across as quite a warm-hearted and thoughtful guy these days.
