I’m not a Slabhead fan but I think for now we keep him as our CCB behind de Ligt. Far more pressing areas to fix before we replace one of our back up CBs. Saying that I do think he’s been overrated this season off the back of being hated only a year before and the odd goal he gets (which have been great tbf). Defensively he still makes a lot of mistakes.

Also, there is no way we are bringing in 6 starters this season, whoever we manage to move on.

There’s his value off the matchday pitch as well, which is not inconsiderable.

No I'm not.

If we signed a squad player to replace Maguire, it would still cost more that what we'd get for Maguire. And if we want to replace Maguire with an actual upgrade, it's not going to come cheaply at all unless we really did find a gem from somewhere. There's no point spending money we don't have on a sideways move for a player that still has plenty of uses.

We also have a fairly young squad. Maguire is one of the senior players and we're desperately short of solid senior pros in the squad, especially with Eriksen, Onana, Casemiro, Lindelof & Rashford leaving or expected to leave.

I think people underestimate how players who physically can’t play the manager’s system are detrimental to the team.

Maguire has brought this problem for years and it’s why we turned into a counter attacking team. That can’t change when you have a centre half who can’t press high and a team around him who know that. Amorim has talked about the impact of the slightest hesitation and I’m amazed he wants him in the team.

Makes more sense to sell and replace De Ligt then doesn’t it than to keep Maguire for an extra year as a back up defender?

I’m the og Maguire hater, but even I think this makes sense considering where the squad is and what finances we have to improve the squad this summer.

Any money that would be needed to replace Maguire needs to be spent on players that can kick a football in the general direction of the goal.

We scored 44 facking goals in the league this season. It’s a disgrace. Only the bottom 3 and Everton scored less than us.

Maguire = is still one of the club's few genuine epl level players, but he isn't going to last forever

Heaven/de Ligt or Martínez - only the first two MAY become good enough, but "may" is too risky.

Bruno = again, is still one of the club's few genuine epl level players, but he isn't going to last forever

United still need more quality and experience alongside maguire and shaw, as well as a winger as threatening as garnacho is - but on the opposite wing.

Two back up at the same (or better) level/epl experience of Fernandes and Mount.


No need for "6 in 6 out".

Only Dalot and lindelof really NEED to be moved out on the basis of their both just being garbage at this level.

And then the older ones (casemiro, eriksen, evans) need to go on the basis of NOW not being good enough. Although it's doubtful whether casemiro could/would ever have adapted to the higher intensity of the epl at any stage in his career
