A pub experience is not a static thing and the beauty is the experience can change every visit.

Why persist with this comical character that tries to write English? No one learning English would spell like you do, you are obviously a very good English writer, so to persist with this nonsense for all these years is ridiculous. Just write normally, I doubt many would notice or care.

I’m surprised there hasn’t been a great many entries on this one. I wouldn’t be able to categorise the worst and the best that I’ve encountered though.

Dirty D*cks, near to Liverpool Street station in the City of London, is one that stands out in the forefront of my mind. I last went there around the summer of 1978, when it was in Its former ‘glory’ and when the ground floor was literally spit & sawdust, with what looked like a spittoon placed near to the bar. The cellar was where all the activity took place. Music piped through with bodies swaying to & fro, the floor awash with spilt beer, wet shoes and other unknown liquid substancex, the walls plastered with notes bearing people’s names and a general sense of ‘come here and please yourself’ in the air.

In 1992, I was billeted at R.N.A.S. Culdrose near Helston in Cornwall for a few days. I had nothing to do with the services. Someone mentioned a ‘great’ pub in town so a group of us sauntered up to the Blue Anchor. A marvellous day was had by all amidst seafaring tales related by one or two local ‘salty dogs’ and the knockout effect of Spingo ale was overwhelming.
