When our new owners changed the Walkers to the King Power stadium there were lots that didn't like it, now imagine if a ground, which has had its name since 1892, had its name changed to something worse!
Would be like Newcastle changing St James Park to something awful like Sports Direct Arena! That would go down well with the fans up there!
What a terrible thought!
KP not so bad!

It will always be St James's Park to me. Ashley and his subordinates, know the cost of everything but the value of nothing....#numpties

Joey Barton may have done a lot wrong in his life but I still respect him cause he isn't afraid to speak his mind, and he obviously cares a lot for Newcastle.

It was the "City Business Stadium" and was only renamed to this in 1990 but nobody ever referred to it as that, and to be honest I had never even heard of that name until a few months ago. Names like City Stadium and City Ground are really stupid and simple, wouldnt you agree?

What people are overlooking is that this might be a clever move by Ashley.
The fans and the football public will all still refer to it as St James Park but, with Financial Fair Play looming, it means owners of clubs can't invest any money into the club from their own pocket and must do it through club's revenue.
So, by naming the stadium after his own company, it means Ashley can pay whatever he likes for the stadium naming rights and so invest X amount of money into the club that way and it will count as income, and so can be spent on transfers etc.
This is why I think it was a smart move from our owners to sponsor the stadium and shirt because they can invest their money into the club that way. Man City have also done this with Etihad and don't be surprised to see more clubs doing this on the wake of FFP. For instance, I wouldn't be surprised if Sports Direct were sponsoring the shirt next season.
So, whilst it might be unpopular, this could actually be a decision that works in Newcastle's favour and can be seen as Ashley doing something positive for the club.

Apparently, someone from Coventry contacted the owners of a well-known dog biscuit manufacturer with a view to re-naming their stadium.
Unfortunately for them the company involved, Winalot, declined their offer as they didn't think their name would be appropriate.
