An Open Letter to ja606 Users

Merry Bit-between-Christmas-and-New-Year,

May I ask kindly that ja606 users please stop placing bets and sweepstakes where the only outcome is that the loser leaves ja606... and revise any that currently stand.

There is nothing big or clever about wagering solely upon the fact that if you lose you will just walk away. This bet is supposedly about bravado and confidence in the face of an adversary; yet within your wager you effectively say that you haven't got the guts to face the humiliation of losing! How is that, in any way, shape or form, bravado?

Bet something better, something interesting, something with fall-out, but most importantly less damaging to the site. Be a MAN! Show some REAL guts!! Offer to put something stupid next to your name for a month, or post an article saying you were wrong.

Would you rather win and find yourself talking to about 3 opposition fans next season and have noone left to argue with, smug in the knowledge that you won a bet?

Being in my late twenties, I've watched quite a few online communities grow and die over the last 15 years. When user numbers drop by a certain level, people start to grow bored and visit less often, so the rate of decline then increases exponentially. It's a depressing thing to watch.

While ja606 inheritated a certain amount of loyalty from 606 and is doing very well, it is still only less than a year old and therefore still vulnerable.

Have you seen the alternatives? It's bleak out there I tell you.

So don't go daring loads of people to leave the website, don't go WUMming poorly and making a fool of yourself and don't post rubbish or hate-filled articles....

Since 606 died I've grown rather fond of ja606, and I want to see it continue growing and stay alive, WUM's and all.
