We need a re-vamp.

What is it about this league and signing “experienced heads" or “grafters", all of which are lauded with “he’ll do a job…" upon their arrival?

Our team is bogged down by many players with football league experience or 2 good seasons 5 years ago.
I respect what Simon Grayson has done for this club, he did well to steady the ship and get us into the championship and hasn’t done a bad job of it so far. But last season, we had the best chance we’ll get in a long while for promotion and this season shows that he hasn’t got the nous to put together a squad that can challenge for automatic promotion (which is what we should always be aiming for, none of this “but we’re only a couple of points off the play-offs" rubbish). Personally, I’m not even that angry about the awful contract situations or blowing the majority of our budget on Danny Pugh, I just think he’s doing the best he can, end of.
What we need is a manager who can come in and put together a fresh team that will not only out-play the rest of this league, but act as the foundations for the forthcoming seasons.
If we build around Longergren, Lees, White, Howson and Snodgrass, we have the makings of a great team. I don’t want to turn this into a debate about the chairman, but we’re obviously not in a strong financial position. But with the right work ethic, tactics and man-management, who’s to say that we couldn’t even create this team out of what we’ve already got?
The club is being held back at mediocre the anchor that is Grayson. Thanks for getting us so far, thanks for January 3rd, but goodbye.
As I say, this isn’t a platform for criticising SG or KB, but it just annoys me no end when we see great, young talent not being used to their full potential as well as a load of old dross running around sleeping with each others wives, not performing in training etc and costing us hundreds of thousands a year for the privilidge.

Best fans

Thanks for clearing that up mate. Those numbers look about right

Maybe i'm being harsh on the likes of Brown and Forsell calling them dross, but i believe better players have gone elsewhere who Grayson would have rather brought in. Experienced midfielders i'd have preferred the likes of Bowyer, Andrews or Ferguson over Brown who hadn't played for a good few months.
Forsell just looked like a low risk free signing because he realised Paynter had no future and Somma was out for months anyway. Lets not forget he came in after the deadline so we couldn't have got anyone else in.

Could you not say every manager would rather have signed better players?

I just think the lack of ambition isn't down to Grayson and comes from Bates lack of funds. Also Bates doesn't even keep our 1st team players that Grayson wants to keep. If Bates doesn't change his strategy the club will go backwards in terms of players, league position and attendance.

Who'll be gone by the end of this season? possibly the likes of Howson, White and Snodgrass. Will we bring in adequate replacements? Probably not once again.

Could you not say the same about other chairmen?

Would you agree that Grayson signs players worse than the ones we've already got and plays them ahead of better players?

How is that down to Bates?

not those with ambition for the club they represent...

People get money and ambition confused.

They are two different things.

You can still be ambitious on a tight budget.

Obviously Bates has no ambition because he's employing Grayson.

Grayson only has one ambition and that's to keep himself in a job.

His 2 big mistakes this season in terms of signings in my opinion are O'Dea and Rachubka.
O'Dea was originally brought in as LB, poor decision as White is considered one of the best players by everyone now and he should have had more faith in him. Plus O'Dea was shocking at LB. At CB i believe he is currently the weak link next to Lees.
Rachubka cost us 2 points against Cov, nearly cost us v Posh and caused a 5-0 hammering plus the suspension of Lees v Blackpool.

Conclusion we did need a CB but one of far greater quality than O'Dea. Leicester signed a better CB for a fee for their bench in St Ledger.

We have Leigh Bromby who is better than O'Dea and we signed him for a quarter of a million on a four year deal.
