David Moyes and 'big spending' Spurs ...

"Tottenham, arguably, might be the biggest spenders in the Premier League - they have always supported whoever the manager has been.

Eh? True the manager is always supported, but look at the net spend over the past 3/4 years! What a strange comment.

Starting to annoy me that all of our 'rival' managers and celebrity pundits/fans (e.g. Alex Ferguson, AVB, Kenny, Moyes) have come out in support of 'Arry as England manager, knowing full well how weak that will leave Spurs and thus help to eliminate us as meaningful opposition ...

----

Everton boss David Moyes admits it is 'frustrating' to see the club fail to keep up with high-flying Tottenham.

The two sides meet at White Hart Lane on Wednesday with Harry Redknapp's men hoping to keep pace with the Premier League's top two.

Everton meanwhile go into the game down in 11th place, 18 points adrift of Spurs - a side who just a few seasons ago were on a level footing with the Toffees.

Moyes ruefully acknowledges a lack of cash has prevented him from keeping up with the Premier League's elite but remains hopeful that he can somehow bridge the gap without the help of big-money.

"It is a little bit sad they are starting to pull away from us a little bit more than I would like," said the Scot.

"I think it was only three or four years ago us and Tottenham were competing neck-and-neck for European places.

"It is frustrating because all managers will tell you when you are close and competing with teams you never like to see them go away from you, but we are looking at them going away from us at this present time.

"They have continued to kick on and over the years they have got in some really good players. Rafael van der Vaart is one and Scott Parker another recently.

Spenders

"Tottenham, arguably, might be the biggest spenders in the Premier League - they have always supported whoever the manager has been.

"Football will always come back around sometime and someday hopefully they will be looking at the back of us.

"At the moment it unfortunately looks as if you need a bit of finance to get it back, but it would be nice to think we could do it the way we have done it.

"We will work really hard and try to bring in players, produce our own players here, work with them, develop them and try to make them better.

"That is how we do it at Everton, we don't do it any other way."

Your points are nonsense. If a key players leaves, it is obvious they are going to be replaced. They have to be.

If Tevez was still happy, he would still be a key player in the team and probably still captain. They might not have signed Aguero if he was still happy.

Obviously you want key players on long contracts. But when wages in that contracts no longer represent what a player can get elsewhere it is only natural he will want a new deal. And so while the long contract ensures you will receive what that player is worth in terms of a fee, it doesn't guarantee that a player will remain key to the team. It is only a contract.

My "point" is that you appear to equate being "key" to a football club as wanting to stay.

I equate being key to a club as the difference in the teams' performance when said player is or is not playing (for whatever reason) .

If the above is so, I agree to disagree (and end the discussion) .

WE ARE, grandspurs.
Otherwise we wouldn't have volunteered the info we did.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

No some are being honest but others are distorting the picture by giving our net spend over the prem years. This is yet another stat that distorts the truth we went thru a terrible 2/3 years of wasting money ridiculously.

Oh you can do anything with averages.
The yearly transfer data shows the details though (players, costs etc) , for those who want to see all the s.

The past 3 yrs is without doubt where Levy has absolutely got it spot on.

Also Moyes shut up, you're useless with money. Look at all his big money signings, they've all been pants apart from Fellaini.
**

Feillani WAS our big money signing & Baines at 5m...who wouldnt have done that deal! & the guy on about wasting the Lescott money - we bought Distin with that aswell who is rock solid, I do see us getting spanked by Spurs tomorrow night though!

You may be surprised. Everton give Spurs a hard game, home or away.
