At 17, you really have to have exceptional talent to make up for all the other shortcomings inherent to your game due to lack of experience.

If that's Sterling's case - I'm not in a position to judge that - then sure, the sooner he gets that much-needed experience the better.

Not wumming but that was truly an embarrassing comment by Kenny. Sterling will have zero motivation now, what will be the point of working hard if he's not gonna be given a chance even though the first team are not performing well?

Is he just being held back because of his age? Should he just hibernate for 5 years until he's 22?

He should be using the rest of the season to give players like sterling game time and the essential experience it will give for next season
Carroll and Suarez should also start every game to get them trying to form a partnership

Kenny wants to show he made good signings. In 5 mins Sterling created a better chance than Downing managed in 80mins.

I agree with protecting him, but what Kenny actually said was:
"It's not fair on us to bring on a 17 year old boy, It's not fair on him. He's a good player, he's a good lad, but at the end of the day, we're going to have to manage him. He may have enjoyed getting on the pitch, but I don't think it's the way forward for us".

Now take that as you will, but saying "...but I don't think it's the way forward for us" is not exactly managing the lad and filling him with confidence.
I take it from that statement that he has no intention of giving the lad any game time at all within the near future. If that's the case, why name him in the squad at all. The lad must have thought this was his chance; came on for ten minutes and played well, only to hear that from the manager.

Yes, I agree he needs to be managed, but he should get game time along the lines of Ox.
Our season is pretty much over now, apart from the FA cup, so it would be the ideal time to give Sterling game time and start bringing him through.

Agrred entirely led,why bother,what bugs me the most,is the same culprits are failing time after time,thats why we are where we are,and they deserve to be dropped now,they wont come good,there past the sell by date,or just not commited enough to the cause.
I find the whole saga very insulting to the fans,if it we're'nt kenny he'd be drinking in last chance saloon by now!

I'd still keep him on the bench and then unliesh him in the Europa next season to make it worth viewing next season.

They were played too young for too long, hence Owens injuries all his career and Fowlers fall from grace. Also, didnt Gerrard suffer as well by playing too much too young!!!

Nobody is saying that GB we don't expect him to play all the time, we want him to have atleast a few 20 mins run outs and see how he does, we don't want him starting every game we aren't stupid

The problem with Owen and Fowler, where I agree with you GB, is that they were played too much.
League, cups, internationals, without a break.
I'm not saying that Sterling, for instance, should play the full 90 mins week in week out, but 20 to 30 minute run outs will help him.
A 20 to 30 minute game for the first team would probably be less strain than playing a full 90 mins plus in a youth / reserve game every week, where the tempo of the game is often much faster.
Sterling can only improve by getting experience of playing against the type of player he will come up against, and also the players he will be playing with, once he does break into the first team.

The way Ajax handle their youngsters,is to introduce them for 15-20 minute cameos,usually when the game is won.This way gives them the experience and also builds their confidence.The way we are playing at the moment,I cant see us being in that position,QPR game?,maybe this is what Kenny meant.
Ajax also have alot of their ex players returning to coach their youngsters and didnt seem to do them any harm in their game against us.
