Wolves put in great performances against the top teams. Last time Lampard outsmarted the Wolves manager by playing 3 at the back. Wolves will be ready for that this time.

Conceding a foul there was basically a penalty

VAR should have been used

meh they're wolves we're chelsea and we're at home

if we can't get at least a draw vs wolves then we don't deserve CL anyway

shame Lamps can't put that much emotion in his defensive training

posted on 23/7/20

Just saying a dodgy foul that was incorrect and led to them scoring (albeit they were already 2-0 up) is not the cause and reason for our woes

Crap defending especially at set pieces is the reason and it doesn’t help we have some pretty mediocre defenders and a dire goal keeper but Lamps hasn’t made us any more secure or tried to apart from constant chopping and changing except changing one of the main root causes being the keeper

We looked not amazing but a lot more defensively confident with Willy in goal as do the defenders. United win was the best we’ve played, confidence starts from the back, knowing you have to be perfect as a defender because you can’t rely on a keeper is not good enough and also piles pressure on attackers because they would have the feeling they must score multiple times to make up for the inevitable goals we concede

At least play a competent goalkeeper... Willy’s not amazing but at least he’s reliable and consistent

Too much negativity here this morning. If we don't get top four then we don't get it. We'll just have to double make sure get CL football next season instead.

On the flip side we might get top four and win the FA Cup which far exceeds anything we could have possibly hoped for this season. And we could even achieve both those things from losing and then winning our last two games of the season.

I have a good feeling that Willy will play against Wolves. Hopefully the Liverpool game will be the last time we ever see Kepa in a Chelsea shirt. Fitting for a game where we conceded five.

If not for a dodgy foul which lead to an unfair goal and if we'd started Willy in goal as well as Pulisic in attack we may well have smashed them last night. The whole momentum shifted from that goal though.

I'm literally salivating thinking of a front three of Pulisic Werner and Ziyech with Havertz in midfield.

If we sign Havertz and if those four players click then the rest of the PL really is in deep shat over the next few years

Im excited too Superb.

And given that level of attacking threat, we should take a leaf out of Zidanes book and play in a more pragmatic way and let the attackers have all the freedom they want. Surprised nobody else has mentioned or thought of this.

Starting Pulisic or not isn’t a tactical decision, but a judgement on a player’s fitness. I think Lampard regrets it but it’s hardly indicting to his managerial ability.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I disagree. If Pulisic was semi fit or fully he should have started imo. You need your best attacking option on the pitch from the start against Pool and you need to set up your starting team in the best way to get the points. Going with a tired Willian, a slow Giroud that cannot exploit the space behind their defenders and a weak Kepa was never going to give us an advantage OR hide our defensive deficiencies. Instead he played a nearly identical team to the Utd match because it worked instead of gearing us up for different team altogether.

Now granted the first goal was gifted by a great Willian assist and Kepa really couldn't do anything about it but what if neither were on the pitch? What if Lampard were able to realize we cannot hide our defensive deficiencies? We could've been better setup to take the game to Liverpool, a team that I believe if they went a goal goal down would have packed it in and called it a night.

It's a pretty basic tactical move to exploit the space Liverpool leave at the back. Rotation instead of running our players into the ground, and they're being run into the ground for sure, would have had is looking fresher. Making subs when it's blatantly obvious they're needed would be nice as well. Hes hesitated a whole hell of a lot and nearly everyone here was screaming for changes at half time. Look at the immediate impact they made and none of us are managers.

All in all I think Lampard has a ways to go. He needs to improve on many fronts but I think better players will go a long way towards giving him better options to choose from. I hope he turns this around next season and more importantly right now I hope we don't throw away too 4 and can walk away with a trophy.

Hindsight is something that no manager has. Not starting Pulisic was a mistake but at least he came off the bench against a tiring Liverpool side to excellent effect.

And I don't remember the reaction on here to yesterday's team sheet when it was announced. Did those who criticised Frank after the game for not starting Pulisic also have the same criticism of him before the game?

What hindsight is necessary for anything I was suggesting?

I dont think Liverpool were tiring but we were. I cant speak for anyone else but I had concerns about Pulisic not starting. Tbh I thought maybe he was out of the match completely with injury. Not on the bench.

Nobody wanted Kepa in. Willian is and has been shattered. I never want Alonso in.

I'm not sure what point you're trying to make.

You could well be right Blarms. There's no reason we can't play that way next season with those players. Why not have all those players interchanging? We know that Werner isn't a Giroud-style Number 9 and that he can play on the left as well. Ditto Ziyech who is also very versatile.

So why not have them all interchanging and floating around. Imagine trying to mark that lol.

Kepa has become our Karius.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It’s a bit worse. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a bad keeper be bad like Kepa. Most bad keepers keep making obvious high profile mistakes. Kepa doesn’t really do that. But every single stat about him is so bad

Swansea's incredible goal-rush yesterday was capped with an assist from Conor Gallagher. He's racked up 3,889 minutes played and 17 goal contributions (6G + 11A) at a similar rate to Mason Mount last season. Been a superb debut campaign, with the playoffs he'll cross 4,000.

Where to next season..

Chelsea have conceded six direct free kick goals this season, which seems pretty remarkable.

Alexander-Arnold x2
Rashford (vs Caballero)
De Bruyne
Ziyech
Grosicki (deflected vs Caballero)

😮

Tbh this has been a bad season for bangers being scored against us. Even last season with Sarri we seemed to have a fair few more bangers scored against us than normal

My point is simply that we can all disagree with manager's decisions after the game and with the power of hindsight. Maybe Pulisic was carrying a knock, he didn't start at Wembley either. When he's been fully fit he's usually started since the restart.
