What I can't understand is why we keep slowing play down when Lukaku wants through balls or crosses into the area. If we had crossed 20 balls into the box he'd have got at least one more today.

I think we want to try and recreate his performance vs Arsenal more tbh. Bypass midfield into him so he can lay it off and get on the cross coming back in

Kovacic more progressive than last season
I think Alonso doing his bit and abandoning the LW to drift inside and play ST, works against us when we face a deep block.
Need James and Chilwell to hold the width and stretch the opposition to allow us to find gaps.
how have we managed to coach out Reece James crossing ability. His old self perfectly suits Lukaku.

That Barca team is so old and crap
To be completely fair, Mount was awful tonight - did nothing right really. Ziyech looks well off the pace. James and Alonso lost the ball far too often. Jorginho wasn't great either. I reckon Werner should have come on for Mount in the 70th minute.
What Tuchel did right was leave just Christensen back in the second half. When we scored our goal, both Rudiger and Azpilicueta were just outside the opposition box and Christensen was about 10 metres into the Zenit half.
Mount is allowed off nights
Really hope he hasnt been run into the ground by the last season plus Euros

We look a bit undercooked.
Going to blame the international break for that.
Should hopefully see us return to normal form over the next couple of weeks.

I still don’t really get the point of Ziyech. Comes up with goals sometimes after his teammates put it on a plate, but his general game is very disappointing. Ever since he got injured in that Leeds game under Lampard.
Feel like he gets more chances than he deserves compared to some of the other guys competing for his spot.

In a perfect world he's that guy on the bench you bring on if nothing's working & you need to roll the dice on a spark of magic. Or if your counter attacking a really strong team & you don't give af if he gives away 50 balls, so long as 2 or 3 of them find the striker in space.
He'd shine big in an Everton type team (7th to 10th).

I think Pulisic, Ziyech and CHO are all better off as proper wingers than inside forwards. Werner, Mount and Havertz are more suited to the latter, more central role.
Feel like we need more flexibility to suit the strengths of individuals, as certain systems or opponents don’t necessarily suit certain players.
