7 goals for Kane in 2 games

Like my stats in inter House games at school. Our house in our year had 7 first team players in it from the school team. I used to fill my boots in the inter House competition.

This DCMS enquiry is explosive

He’s giving quite a detailed account

Lot of nuance clearly around his relationship with Ballance

posted on 16/11/21

"Kevin was something Gary [Ballance] used for people of colour in a derogatory manner. All the time.

"Gary and Alex Hales got very close to each other playing for England but I understand Alex went on to name his dog Kevin because it was black.

---

Add another one to Hales' track record

He knew a fair few of the cricket lads when I was at Notts uni

He had something of a rep on nights out, saw him with Broady a few times in one of the clubs there.

NPE,

I know that you think cricket is boring, but do you still maintain there are no forms on institutionalised racism in our country, or you think this is purely anecdotal?

I have to admit I know nothing about this case but I'm wading in anyway

Is there a distinguishment (not a word sue me) to be made between institutional racism and leadership racism? That is to say, if someone who has power within an institution is racist, does that make the institution racist by definition or does it fit a 'bad apple' model better if such a thing actually exists

I mean sports lad culture is a thing.

My uni’s rugby club got banned for a year because they handed out offensive leaflets at freshers fair.

Yeah I am talking more in abstract terms to be honest

I found a fair amount of Rafiq's testimony quite moving, painting a portrait of someone that felt mistreated by his employers and didnt get listened too when he raised the issues.

But theres a couple of things i dont agree with. Linking the bad treatment of him after his son's stillbirth into the overall narrative of racism. More bullying/bad employment practice

Also he blamed the fact he started drinking on pressure to drink there and I dont accept that frankly, plenty of non drinkers have found the conviction to say no to that sort of thing in those environments. I sympathise with his problems in that culture but thats on no one but him

Yeah maybe he felt pressure to drink to fit in with the lads, but ultimately that’s his choice and responsibility.

Its difficult to evaluate. If he was desperate enough to feel that maybe if he joined in on the drinking the racism might stop its understandable.

I don't think there is. If the leadership is successful then the leadership culture is accepted and ingrained within the group being led.

This is the root of problem perhaps. Too many people just can't distinguish between banter, bullying and racism.
