I think Ranieir v Monaco and Conte v City or Jose vs PSG remain worse one-game managerial performances but this one's close.

Don't know what George has got on Maresca, he plays him all the time.

I maintain that George's transfer falling through was far worse for us in a footballing sense than financially

He's also looked a bit uninterested imo. Probably dislike playing as a CF, and rumour was that he pushed for a permanent in the summer rather than a loan.
Regardless just not at the level and Maresca bringing him on time and again is poor management.

Enzo Maresca on Cole Palmer:
"Cole this morning did a test to play this game. He was not 100%. It was a fantastic effort for the club, for his team-mates, for the team. Unfortunately he was not 100%."

Makes those subs look so poor if we knew he was so touch and go. Probably shouldn't have even started.

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca told BBC Sport: "The red card changed the game after three minutes.
"After the red card for them, 10 v 10, it changed the game for us. We needed to start in a better way.
"It's a red card. [We should have had] a penalty for Joao."
On his subs: "They attack with five players so the idea was to defend with five players. You can defend with four at 11 v 11. The game probably changed after they conceded the red card also with Casemiro. We were much better.
"Cole this morning did a test to play this game. He was not 100%. It was a fantastic effort for the club, for his team-mates, for the team. Unfortunately he was not 100%.
"We need to start the game better. We cannot concede a red card at Old Trafford after three minutes."

I hate how we're seemingly so terrified not to start Palmer in any "big" games. And it makes the decision not to sign Xavi Simons when he was there look stranger

100% means Palmer should have been subbed first after the red card. Today has proven a huge backward step for Maresca.

And then sign Buonanotte who is a conference league standard player. Transfer window went from promising to questionable in the last few weeks. Hope we don't end up looking back on it as a disaster...
The issue is that it never looks like we want to "kick on". Just feels like endless player trading and "hedging bets". We're not going to challenge for the title if our transfer strategy doesn't change.

CWC has bought him a lot of good will but fans tend to have short memories (and already had doubts about him). If our season implodes before Xmas the pressure will be intense.

Trevoh Chalobah on playing with 10 men:
"Always difficult going to 10 men down. United were up for it and they put us under pressure. We have played in the Premier League long enough now so we just have to learn from this and move forward. Whether it is 10 men each, it is always difficult from 2-0 down. We need to reflect over not starting well and we need to raise our standards as a collective."

Wouldn't have been as bad if Delap hadn't got injured. Pedro could have floated around more. Suspect Estevao will play a more prominent role now until Palmer is fit. Garnacho/Neto on wings..potentially

Yeah those last few weeks of the window were so unconvincing. Keeping hold of the same keepers, not properly strengthening at CB after the Colwill injury, questionable buys for the LW position. And then either not bringing in another top striker or bringing in Simons, we needed to do one of those two things.
It was a poor window in general and we're paying for it.
