He was 20 when he was at bayern. The move was too big, too soon for him. He also had attitude problems and got homesick.
He is 6 years older now. More mature, experienced and determined.
Why not be excited. He left Bayern when he was 23. People were expecting him to score amazing goals all the time for Bayern. He did score, but he did have attitude problems.
There was another player like this. Caused problems with the manager at his old club before coming to England. His name was Robin Van Persie
He's a bit more mature now. He was only 20 when he moved to Bayern, after a very successful World Cup. It's a lot of expectation for a young guy.
We've had precious little to get excited about when it comes to internationally-known players over the last few years, so it's good to see that we can still challenge for them.
And I know that it makes no difference to the club game, but his international record is superb for a player who doesn't always play up front.
Just read the final paragraph of your article. Love how bitter some fans are
'turn out to be a flop'
'very likely not suited to pl'
'fifa hype'
also, he has 45 goals or something in 90+ caps for Germany. They're not a 'poor team' right?
What a pathetic, bitter article even though you attempt to hide it.
I was just posing both sides of the argument Verm, grow up
Bunny, Super I can completely understand your point of view tbf as stated I would love him to join Spurs as I always kinda saw him as a more athletic RVP. However would it come as a great shock to you if he didnt perform in the PL?
Edin, you know I love you and I can't tell if you're being serious or not, but if you are, this article reeks of bitterness.
''I am just wondering why everyone is so excited and over the moon about a player who could very likely not be suited to the English game and turn out to be a flop.''
When you buy any player, they could turn out to be a flop. You have to take that chance on a player and give him opportunities to prove his worth to the team.
You bought Modric from a team in Croatia. He could have been a flop. Yet he has complemented and settled into Spurs' midfield divinely.
Koscielny could have been a flop. We bought him when he only spent one season in Ligue 1 and had prior to that played in the second division of French football. Now he's the first name on the teamsheet and has been called up to the French squad.
Who knew Downing, Adam and Henderson would be so bad at Liverpool? I know we often mock them for the prices they acquired their players, but even I did not expect them to be so poor in their debut seasons at Anfield.
The reality of it is when you buy any player, there is a risk of them not accommodating to the league or team and not settling to the environment.
Samir, I was about to give the Modric example but you beat me too it
Edin, I don't want to ruin this article in case its serious, so I won't say much but put it this way, Podolski is a class player who would walk into the spurs team even when he's completely out of form.
Edin, why do I need to 'grow up'. How did you present this article 'from both sides'?
You're telling us Podolski 'gets found out on the main stage' and you accuse him of being a player who lacks responsibility. How ridiculous is that? He is a starter for GERMANY, arguably the best national team in the world (my favourites to win the euros). He is Germany's main penalty taker too!
relatively impressive record internationally
----------------
Another phrase that reeks of bitterness and desperation.
45 goals in 90 games is not 'relatively' impressive. It's just impressive. If you're going to put it 'relatively', it's an insane record.
Obviously that is the case Samir and I can understand why you may see this as bitter, however again the points have been taken from the final point which was discussing two contrasting scenarios that might take place.
I just wonder whether he is suited to the English game or not.
Verm, I disagree with that an off form Podolski is not better than Bale, VDV or Lennon. Despite being a great player I dont really see how he could fit in our team as we need to strengthen in out and out target men first.
Wasn't Bergkamp a flop at Inter Milan??????
BTW - City are after Bale for £45million, he's a must buy!
Edin, Podolski would get infront of Adebayor, who most fans acknowledge has been poor recently. Even in last night's game, (I watched it), he was shocking. His first touch was horrendous but he got two goals because of Lennon and Bolton's crap offside line.

--------------
I will admit relatively is the wrong word, however Arshavin had a pretty similar record when coming to you guys obviously there are cases of flops and people who lived up to the expectation.
I just want to know why everyone is SO excited for him to come
however again the points have been taken from the final point which was discussing two contrasting scenarios that might take place.
---
But it's a moot point, Edin. The salient thing to remember here is that when you buy any player, there is an element of risk. No-one knows whether they will exceed expectations or fail beyond epic proportions. You just don't know. It's irrelevant whether you buy a player from the English, French, Italian, Croatian leagues or whatever, there is always a possibility of that player being a flop.
You need to be patient and give the player time to prove himself.

------------------
He is a better player but I wouldnt start him off-form ahead of Ade, definitely not. Also he isnt the kind of player we need, as stated we need someone to lead the line. I see Podolski as a Striker/Winger not someone to lead the line
How old is he when he signed/played for Bayern?
At the end of the day, Podolski is a superb striker who any team in the world would love to have. He's very similar to RVP. He has 18 league goals for a shocking bundesliga side. This doesn't mean he only shines for a small team because he IS GERMANY'S star striker!. Has scored world cup goals, european champion ship goals, won individual awards etc etc
His spell at Bayern was a write-off. He was only 20 and he's moved on since then. Just because he didn't hit the heights at Bayern doesn't mean he can't play for a big club
That's like saying nobody would want to sign Gussieppe Rossi because he flopped at Man united and shone at villareal. Reality is, even Barcelona were interested in Rossi until his serious injury. He failed at United, but everyone can see he is a quality player and will get another chance.
Samir, then why are people making out like he is the next messiah? Surely they should wait to? I just asked because I want to know why so many people are so confident about his arrival.
The only thing Spurs fans can wum us on is Podolski potentially REPLACING rvp. Hopefully it won't happen though.
@Edinspur - The only striker we had this season was RVP, Chamakh and Park are a total waste of bench space!
Why can't we be excited over Poldoski? I don't understand your argument!
For every Rossi I can show you a Forlan/Schevchenko. I dont want to make this an article saying that x didnt flop in the PL. More a case of why people think Podolski will be so good in the PL.
''Samir, then why are people making out like he is the next messiah? Surely they should wait to?''
Since when did the majority of people on ja606 reflect the opinions of all Arsenal fans?
We aren't just happy because we've agreed to sign Podolski (and he is a good player), Arsenal fans are also feeling slightly jubilant because we are doing our transfer business early - a huge mistake which Wenger has learned from after the cataclysmic transfer window in Summer 2011.
If this is the case, then it means Wenger and the board have acknowledged the errors in their thinking and will try and get the signings they want before their prices get higher and other clubs try and pinch them from under our noses.
It means that we could be making steps forward as a club.
'' just asked because I want to know why so many people are so confident about his arrival.''
If Leandro Damiao signed for Spurs, are you seriously telling me you would not be confident that he would do well?
Podolski has a proven record and is 26 years old - I think he will be a step up from the likes Bendtner, Park and Chamakh. IF Robin decides to stay with us, then we are looking forward to both of them forming a striking partnership together.
Ok, here we go.
Podolski will be good in the PL because:
- He has tons of pace and knows how to use it effectively.
- He is one of the deadliest finishers out there.
- He flourishes in a 4-3-3 system for germany. A system we employ.
- He is versatile. If he isn't scoring, Arsene can put him on the left and ask him to cut in, play some incisive passes to the main striker.
- He isn't one dimensional. There isn't a skill he over-relies on. He's got a great ability so he can be just as dangerous 40 yards from goal as he can when he's in the box.
I could go on and on and on.
But we could do this for EVERY SINGLE signing from a foreign league. That's why this article is ridiculous in my opinion.
Forgive us Edin for being too 'confident' and 'excited' about an established international in-form striker signing for us. How childish of us.
