Roy didn't have a happy ending at Ewood

The start of the article suggests we'd forced exile upon him and paints a one sided view of his career. His 'successful' spells in England involved qualifying for Europe via the fair play league and taking West Brom from lower mid table to mid table in a season where two promoted clubs survived with ease and the bottom 3's points totals were pitiful...

A bit early on the send button.

Woys wecord in England doesn't even stack up to Big Sam yet he is painted as some kind of classical gentry coach of excellence!

Well, he did take Fulham, a club with very limited resources, to the Europa League Final, as well as maintaining a safe position in the league. He even made Zamorra look dangerous! Zamorra built a great understanding with Duff.

There were some great performances, which led to the League Managers Association voting him Manager of the Year by a record margin.

They weren't that limited in resources.

Roy did have a very bad injury list at ewood i always thought he was very unlucky at Ewood

Unlucky? To me unlucky involves at least being close to the level required. I seem to remember us being adrift at the bottom by about 6 points when Hodgson got sacked. His record in the 98/99 season was significantly worse than Kidd's so in my opinion he's the main reason we went down.

It could be argued that the players turned against him and with a loyal side he's done a decent job at other places. But the higher profile and better paid the players, the harder a job it is to manage them. Thats always been the case. To me Hodgson is a man who fails at club's expected to do well, and does well with clubs expected to do badly.

In that case, Hodgson should be a great success with England.

Hodgson was sacked on 21 November 1998 after Rovers lost 2-0 at home to Southampton.

Southampton rose above Rovers, leaving them bottom of the table. The bottom three were;
Nottingham Forest 10
Southampton 10
Blackburn Rovers 9

Just two months earlier, Roy had been the bookies' favourite to succeed Glenn Hoddle as England manager.

^^^^^^^^How many had we played at that time? 15?

Roy deserved to be potted when he left, we were all over the place.

We were more all over the place under Brian Kidd and i think we would of done better under Roy than Kid

Yeah but Kidd, signed Matt Jansan, so it was worth getting relegated, got 2 saw a quality player, pity he missed his prime years.

Yeah agree with that one why ride a motorbike without a helmet what a waste of a career

I heard he was wearing a motorcycle helmet and that's the only thing that prevented him from being killed.

All footballers have it in their contracts that they can't ride motorcycles (i believe).

Yeah you maybe right about the Helmet but he was riding a motorbike

Matt Jansen was due to go to the 2002 World Cup in Japan and Tokyo - he had even been measured for his suit. At the very last minute, Sven Goran Eriksson decided to take Martin Keown instead.

Jansen and his girlfriend - now his wife - took a break in Rome. He was riding a scooter - and wearing a helmet - when he was hit by a taxi at a crossroads.
