I think it's mainly because we told we are 'bitter about the CL semi final' whenever we critiscise Ronaldo which is a bit ridiculous seeing as we were so pathetic we were never going to reach the final, and like United we would have got well beaten if we had. Also we got absolutely destroyed by Messi at the Nou Camp 1 year later, and we're not bitter about that. I think United fans are over-protective of Ronaldo, and we respond by going on the wum and supporting Messi.

Personally I believe the whole thing is ridiculous, we should just try to enjoy both of these great players, even though I find it difficult to enjoy Ronaldo because he's such an arrogant diva.

Ronaldo is faster off the ball, but on it he isn't. Basically the only thing Ronaldo is superior is heading and sprinting w/o the ball. Strength wise they're similar. Messi harldy gets pushed off.

I meant United fans in general, a fair amount of them can't accept criticism for Ronaldo.

Ronaldo can't dribble like Messi, Ronaldo isn't as quick as Messi, Ronaldo isn't as clinical as Messi, Ronaldo isn't as creative as Messi, Ronaldo isn't as good a passer as Messi. I could go on and on and on.

All true. But Ronaldo can do these things, mostly very well (though for me he's not that creative), just not as well as Messi. He also has some attributes where Messi is weak on.

I never said it was close originally. I think it is pretty close, but I also think anyone who really knows about football would rather have Messi.

i also think that the cristicism for ronaldo comes a lot from the fact he used to play for utd, not all of it but it certainly adds to it, i would imagine that fans in france and germany etc dont criticise ronaldo as much as fans in england

Yes I kinda agree with fans hating him more because they are jealous of what he achieved with United against their clubs BUT the fact is Messi is better and that has nothing to do with Ronaldo's past.

I think a lot of the criticism for Ronaldo is due to his perceived arrogance, especially when compared to the very mild mannered Messi. I'm sure the former United player thing does influence some fans, but not to the difference in how the 2 players carry themselves.

I hate Spurs, utd, etc but when I see a good player I don't deny their quality just because of the team they played for. In that case Modric is rubbish, Ronaldo is avg, Scholes is overated etc.
