some very good up and coming young players in that Barca B team... Oriol Romeu went straight from there to Chelsea's first team; Busquets, Pedro, Cuenca, Thiago all got to the Barca main team via plying their trade in the B team for a long time... people like Sergi Roberto making the transition now...
Might be worth a watch if the tickets are cheap- some of those players WILL be playing for Barca or other top clubs very soon
You should definitely go, it will be a good match to watch
theyll destroy us. b or a theyre still awesome.
Your dates are wrong, we play them on Wednesday 8th.
I'll be going. It may be the B side but the Barcelona way is drilled into these lads at age 10. This will be a serious workout for us.
Just about the best friendly Town have ever arranged. Inspired.
Think the Barcelona B friendly is on August 8th not 16th !
I will definitely be going, some of their players will be world beaters in 5 or so years and we get to see them play when they are busting a gut to get into the A team (with Face and Murdoch no doubt).
When we played that Spanish side a few years back (think it was Athletico Madrid???) they were great to watch and as the game didnt have anything riding on it we could just enjoy watching a brilliant team play, even if they beat us easily.
Town will never play Barca's main team so I cant see why you wouldnt go if you can afford to and have the time.
Think it was Sociedad MBWB, Boothy's testimonial if I'm not mistaken, but yeah, was a good game.
Also the Arsenal youth side we played in our centenary year were top class and gave us a real challenge.
This fixture will be no different. Really looking forward to it personally.
Some of their top players will be invited to the Barça senior team's summer training camp, so might miss the game.
Quite a lot of them have already made their 1st team débuts and are probably ready for top flight football as it is.
You could be right Novak, I just remember loving watching them pass beautifully.
That Arsenal team were very good too but there is something that bit more special about Barca. They are the best team in the world so even their B team is arguably better then a lot of other teams.
Can't wait for this one. The best friendly ever me thinks!
I personally think its a fantastic friendly LV and you have not even got your dates right! Shouldn't you be mentioning signing Michael Owen again? You really haven't got a clue have you?
Aye up lads, don't shoot the messenger! I read the article, bleary eyed, when I woke up this morning. I read it, as the match was on the eve of the Championship season, which I thought was Friday 17th August. Hence, I wrote the fixture as Thurs 16 August.
This is what is on the Town website,
'Town fans will have the chance to see Simon Grayson's side in action on the eve of the kick-off to the Championship season when top class opposition from Spanish giants Barcelona visit West Yorkshire!'
So, maybe those who jumped on me, may cut me a little slack.
Seriously though, are Town signing Owen?
No ! But we have just signed Alan Lee for another year.
The jammie dodger! I thought he would move on, I just don't rate him. He must of taken a hefty pay cut! It's been mentioned before, the Championship will be too much for him.
What is all this "Lee must have taken a pay cut" or "Bad decision by the management" ? Do people think Lee has been offered a contract extension on less money or that Larry wanted him to sign over someone else ???? Lee has the contract extension because he had a clause in his old contract for a 12 month option if he played a certain amount of games,,,, Lee re-signing is nothing to do with Larry,,, Blame the unmentionable half wit who paid over the odds for Lee in the first place, Yes yes the pill lock now in charge of Brum....
aurans thats exactly right.
he signed players on contracts that were verging on the ridiculous..
you simply cant get rid of them...
lee will be on less than he was but still more than his cameo appearances will justify..
if we cant unload kay, then its the same..
you get stuck with players in your squad on too much money who in reality you dont want to play.. given how many clark signed thats gonna be a problem for grayson for a while yet..
still at least we can still sing "alan , alan lee"... a classic of its type...
"lee clarks barmy army"???? more like "lee clarks overpaid, over rated army"....
Can't see us getting a new striker now that Lee's signed.
Apparently kay is wanted back by the trannies.
they dont want to pay a fee for him..
thats ok with me but probably not with deano..
fine line re getting shut of his wages against not getting a fee...
Just read we're after a striker from man city on a season long loan. John guidetti?
Interesting that mccombe has been moved from number 6. Is there a another defender coming in? We dont need another...
No hdye, i said we won't be getting a striker now.
I see some of you on here are still having great difficulty getting LC out of your minds, even though he's got nowt to do with Town now.
Just a small point, wasn't it "Lee Clark's over paid, over rated army" and "the pill lock now in charge of Brum" whose players finally got us out of League One? - or am I missing something here?
