A Tractor Nother Bidder?

I heard they're quite happy to pay a million for Steve, but will only cough up £500k as we're insisting on them taking Tyson too.

Great article title

I hate transfer 'sagas' like this that just drag on and on.
You're right tell Ipswich to make their bloody minds up or declare themselves out.

I just wonder perhaps if Davies is a bit 'off the radar' due to his injury problems; would playing him help jog a few memories, stir up some interest and lead to a decent sale for us?

I just worry we'll get toward the end of the window, take Ipswich's derisory offer and end up with no time to replace him and frankly, I thought we needed reinforcing in that area already, so a like-for-like isn't really improving anything!

Play him! Get him fit, get him 'in the window' and force someone's hand!

Can't argue with you there 666. Unless he's injured again!!!!

That's a risk we take, Jorv..

Look at Leon Best: £3m move to Blackburn, now out for six months and they have to replace him already.. maybe they'll come in for Davies?!!

Blackburn was mentioned a few weeks ago, but it's not exactly on London's doorstep and it's a bit too close to Burnley for comfort.

666 nearly every one on this forum, know my feelings towards GSE. I'm going to repeat myself once again, our CEO Tom Glick and yes 666 Nigel Clough knew we needed a striker ASAP for the beginning of the season, now all of a sudden, we have to wait till we sell Steve Davies!! Am I right or wrong, even if Davies was still here, they said we would still need a striker in as we lacked scoring goals last season. Now we are being told, until we sell Steve Davies, there is no money for a striker. Like I've been saying since GSE have been here, especially Glick, they contradict themselves over and over again, and some fans still trust and believe in GSE
First of all I would get rid of Davies, it's obvious he's going. If they offer £600,000 I'd take it. It's blatantly obvious what Derby are up to, they are going to bring a loan in for a year. So it's penny pinching once again as it has been since GSE have been here.
Finally more bad news, as usual, it's all we seem to get from Derby, apart from the young lads who seem to be doing brilliant. Les Green has just passed away at the age of 70, he's been battling cancer for a while. R.I.P Les you will never be forgotten.

If we can't attract enough money then definitely play him. Remember how well Commons played when he wanted a new club and contract. Just treat him as a player on loan for whom you do not have to pay a fee to his home club.

I thought the Shackell rumour had been put to bed AJ.

Fair enough Spartacus Blackburn are at least likely to have more cash available than Ipswich. I tend to agree with Wassa, get a half decent offer in the next few days and take it. Gives us a couple of weeks to get someone in. How about Dave Kitson from Portsmouth.? He's one of four players still on their books and we'd get him for nothing. Davies' sale would pay Kitson's wages for 2 seasons.

Looks like it's Bristol City then.

Don't think Kitson would accept the drop in money to come to Derby. Besides which he scored fewer goals than Varney did last year. I think Nigel abandoned his ambition to have a team of red heads when Pringle and Pearson left.

Dave Kitson? Really? I'd prefer a 40 something Paul Kitson!

If Derbys valuation wasnt met I'd keep him, can always sell him in January for half of Derbys valuation, maybe slightly under. Better than being left with nothing up top IMO....

I thought we needed reinforcing in that area already, so a like-for-like isn't really improving anything!

Pretty much what Derby have done with the rest of the squad, like for like in but a cheaper version

THERE'S A PRICE Below which you don't sell - surely - It is somehwere near what we need to spend on a replacement. Otherwise - don't replace him. Davies is a good enough player. But forget Blackburn. Unless the rumours are baseless. Blackburn is a few miles down the road from Burnley.

The striker situation at Derby is laughable. At the end of the season we are told we need to buy a striker. I felt at that point we needed two, as for me Ward is a winger as is Tyson. So then we sell Maguire who tbf wasn't in the picture but Ball is loaned out and now we are waiting on Davies to leave before we can sign anyone.

The situation at the club at the moment is so frustrating. If Derby end up in Blackburns shoes where the striker we sign, whoever that maybe, gets injured. Glick will probably tell us "Like I have been saying all summer I feel the club can get a long fine this season with one striker in the shape of Theo."

Would add some spice to the Lancashire derby!

Piccolo and ramdini......that rumour is totally made up and proven wrong but I won't go down that route as I have already upset sheepy

fustrating, but i think we need to take what we can get and bring in a replacement

posted on 31/7/12

It appears that all transfers must be cash neutral and probably also have the stipulation that the wage bill must be brought down. Finding a decent replacement striker if we accept a low bid will extremely difficult. The only hope is to attract a bid from a premiership club.

Reading today that Andy Carroll is being loaned for one season for £2M and Sunderland are prepared to pay £10M for Fletcher from Wolves then Steve Davies must be worth a few quid.

In the spirit of fairness, we already took Tyson to try to make the Brian Clough Trophy matches a bit more competitive.. how many of your vast collection of non-strikers do we need to take before you can give us a game?
