Thank you NITB
As Strett said,Murray is a decent player,no one is denying that. The word "great" is reserved for those who achieve great things. When Murray earns his right to be called great,I will be the first to call him that

CC
Whats really sad is that as one of Murrays biggest fans on the forums, you are also his worst enemy.Murrays achievements are clearly not enough for you,so you have to build it up to be something it isn't.Even if Murray does go on to do something truly great, you still won't be happy, you'll still try to build that up to be something it isn't either
If Murray isn't good enough for you with what his has achieved now,he will never be good enough for you no matter what he goes on to achieve

"this conversation shows a new level of hatred, jealousy and ignorance."
You're acting like a child CC,no one who has been part of this debate has been ignorant or jealous, apart from you perhaps
You cant blame people for hating Murray either
He has an attitude,is very arrogant and his ego tends to get ahead of himself,I don't think I have ever seen someone make the game of tennis look as ugly as him,you constantly hear the Americans complain about his awful teeth which makes his mouth look very unhygienic,he looks sloppy and is never groomed well, the mannerisms and the way he celebrates points makes him unbearable to watch, the list goes on and on etc..These are just a few criticisms I read across the forums, but thats what sport is like. There will always be people who don't like a particular player, even Roger with everything that he has achieved comes under such criticism,so even if Murray were to achieve Rogers greatness,it won't stop people from disliking him.Theres nothing you can do about it,so theres no point in complaining about it
But where you are wrong is that no one here has made excuses for Murray except yourself, everyone apart from the OP has congratulated Murray without trying to take anything away from him winning gold
You're the one who has an issue with Murray falling to make grand slam finals without the draw opening up for him and failing to win majors even when the draw opens up for him, because you know Murray isn't in the same class as the 3 players ahead of him,but instead of admitting to that you try to place him in the same class
All youre doing is setting Murray up to fail and be the laughing stock for not living up to the high expectations you place on him.Why not just be happy with the player he is and what he has achieved,it should be enough for a fan no?

I can't see any professional sportsman 'throwing' a game, otherwise Fed would be as good as he is... it is that winning mentality which makes him at the top of his game, if he played tiddly winks, he'd still want to win, which is why he is so good

Murrey beat him well, fair and squar in my book

Claudio

If Andy does ever win a slam there will always be the "yes but" brigade ready to pour scorn on his acheivements!
Just because he doesnt smile enough

why is this thread still going..

Because Murray won something of note Song-17.

It seems to me that many Fed luvvers need to reverse their opinions. Try to think of it as this, for every (major) slam that Federer won, the loser always threw the match for some personal or other reason. Murray threw it two times, so Roger didnt cry lakes of sorry or that his fans didnt Hara Kiri themselves in the stands. If you imagine that, then you can imagine the incredulity that Murray fans feel when you claim Fed tanked the match not to hurt Great Britains appeal of him.

Probably the most outrageous and pathetic excuse I've ever seen dreamed up by Murray haters alike, desperate times indeed, the bare fact remains and cannot be disputed......Murray is THE Olympic Champion and will always be an Olympic Champion, (they are never asked to give back their medals) something that Federer will never achieve, however "Great" his career has been he will never attain the heights that Graf or Agassi climbed to.

Its sad but something you Fed luvvers will have to finally admit to yourselves at some point, it'll hurt, but thats what we Murray fans have had to put up with for 6 yrs, get used to it.

Btw people. I'm not a serious serious Tennis fan, so I'm no ones love child. Congrats to Murray but IMO Fed through the game as I first said.

My reasons are simple, if it was Wimbledon final, Fed would have won as it did a month earlier.

Hey Jubbha!! LTNS

Federer does have Olympic Gold. Maybe not in the Singles event, but he does have a Gold Medal.

Federer for once was outplayed by Murray in a BO5. That in itself was refreshing.

When Federer retires, i bet the one question he will be asked is :Roger,do you have one regret in Tennis? And Roger will say "Yes, i really regret throwing the Olympic Final against Murray at Wimbledon. Ive won everthing else in Tennis but not a Gold in the mens singles!"

On the other hand he might even say "If only i could have raised my game to the level of Murray in the that Olympic final, i desperately wanted to win that GOLD!"

Hi LK, glad to see your still treading the boards.

Logie, if Federer threw the match why is he still crooning after one, as in Rio in 4 yrs ? makes you laugh at the "tank the match" brigade does it not ?

Murray played one of his best returning and service matches I've seen in a long time. Andy moved Federer out of his comfort zone and made him look almost average at times. I seem to remember Federer trying VERY hard to break Andy's serve in the 2nd set, 6 breaks points to be precise, if thats throughing (sic) a match then I've been missing something all these years.

I suppose Djokovic threw the match too and Nadal retired due to fan pressure at Wimbledon, the home of tennis. If everyone was so scared of the spectator backlash, then they must have been watching previous games and not London, as we all know, the crowd have warmed to everyone here.

Or he could say "I played a final during the Olympics at Queens?....I mean Wimbledon?????

"2012 you say???????? Yea I remember that I demolished Andy and reduced him to tears when I won my 100th Wimbledon title. ahhh it was such a great feeling".

"Whats that you say?? I played him again 2 months later and lost .......................Olympics you said yeah??......To be fair, the only thing I remember about the Olympics was Usain Bolt and Michael Phelps. They were amaaaazing".

"Now let me get back to polishing my GRAND SLAM medals"

Yes Roger,

but can you imagine polishing you Golden slam <wink>

Wow! A week on and these guys are clearly not worth reasoning with. As I said about 3 days ago, your claims have a more detrimental effect on Federer than Murray. You make Federer look bad, not Murray. Now stop being so naïve.

Murray won that match, fair and square. Federer wouldn't have expended 4 hours worth of energy attempting to defeat Del Potro if he was going to settle for Silver. Your ignorance knows no bounds.
