Wayne Rooney is left out of the Manchester United side as Robin van Persie makes his full debut.

This isn't fantastic news. The fact that Rooney can be dropped is good news but the news that has might not be.

I hope the team justify Sir Alex' decision.

Shocking to drop Rooney, would have started them both to give them chance.

Just my view, of course manager knows best.

While it is fantastic news that we have the attacking options to be able to drop Rooney and still have an amazing front line....

My suspicions are that you find it fantastic, purely for the instant gratification of seeing a new face.

Unless Rooney is injured or out of form, this is a dangerous move by SAF.

I dont think Rooney is anywhere near fit enough plus RVP has to be given a fair chance to prove himself.

I think this is smart decesion from SAF. I think it's easy with all the attacking options that we now have, to field too many attacking players and lose structure. So i think we may see some experimental line ups in the next couple of "easier" matches to try and figure out what works and what doesn't. Also, i'm glad to see Nani has not made the team today. He needs to buck up his ideas and starting performing every game.

Rooney has played in 3 full matches, this month, RVP has played 27 minutes.

If you guys win today could you at least make sure RVP scores a brace?

Be very funny to see the Arsenal fans wound up further

Nani not on the bench. Injury? Or is there something behind the rumours?

Not wumming seriously but a player like Rooney that has led the line not being fit is a worry.

Irrespective of wages paid his lifestyle is its the case effecting his selection by not being fit should cause concern, he looks to be Carying a few extra pounds.

I don't see why there's this misguided notion that Rooney needs to be punished to 'make him work harder'.

Anyone that thinks that is just a plastic who knows nothing about football.

Sir Alex is deciding not to take a risk on a not-so-fully fit player.

Has to be a related to the rumours.

As for rooney dropped, its an awesome statement by fergie. Btw, based on ability, kagawa and rvp are the best pairing on ability and suitability.

Exactly - plus RVP must be given his chance as well as kagawa.

I am a huge rooney fan but something hasnt been right since April. there is no excuse for him not been fit, the important thing is how he will react to being dropped.

Why the 1 stars?
______________________

You're lucky with those imo. I'd give this minus 5 stars if I could!

It's good to have attacking options, but you give the impression that as a United fan you're really excited at your thought that RVP has come straight in from Arsenal and dumped our most productive player for the last few years to the bench, which shows an amazing lack of loyalty and lack of gratitude for everything Rooney has done. It also comes across as yet another United fan article looking to highlight something negative about Rooney.

SAF has dropped or chosen not to play Rooney before for various reasons, even for going out to dinner before a game, so it's hardly like he was getting blindly picked before and RVP has suddenly opened his eyes or given him the bottle to make Rooney work harder which you suggest in a later comment.

Another key point is that Kagawa is the guy playing in Rooney's 4-4-1-1 position not RVP, so SAF has gone for Kagawa over Rooney, and RVP over Welbeck. Based on the Everton game, Kagwas performance in that match, the formation for today, the fact we are at home v Fulham, and probably as important as any RVPs lack of football recently compared to players gone out, he obviously feels this is best for the team.
